yermaw@sh.itjust.works 2 days agoI hate this argument because (the real one) makes sense to me. Ive only ever earned minimum wage and my bosses have largely been women earning more than me.
At mcdonalds we’d get “merit based” annual pay rises, and the fit skinny teenage girls got 30p and my target-smashing ass got 2p.
My lived experience is the exact flip reverse opposite of what I was getting told off for.

You’re on the bottom floor in an unskilled profession, which in my experience is capable of dehumanizing everyone equally. Everyone is just a wage slave, seen as replaceable by their corporate overlords. But there’s a good chance your bosses who are largely women are earning less than their male peers.
When you start looking at fields where people tend to have degrees or certifications, you’ll find women who are just as qualified, have just as much student debt, and have the same workload as their male peers are often paid less for some reason.

Even in academia. I was shocked to find out it even happens in fields like psychology. The very fields that do the research on gender pay disparity.
No Industry is equal for women.
