So bi and pan people donât fuck and make babies?
Lumisal@lemmy.world â¨1⊠â¨day⊠ago
That would imply at least 30% is bi/pan.
And even at 80%, early humans already had it really rough. There seems to have been 2 near extinctions of modern humans in the far past, so when the population is about 1000, having 200 not contribute is pretty big. Especially with the higher mortality rates early humans had in regards to birth.
Itâs more likely the percentage started extremely low and increased over time as population stability increased, since then it would reach a point where 10-20% not having kids wouldnât be as big a deal since there would now be hundreds of thousands or even over a million.

Honestly itâs weird how adamant people are there have always been people who solely preferred one sex over the other. While itâs generally true for modern society, people wouldnât have even understood what you mean in ancient times by âsexual orientationâ, really. I mean you could obviously explain it and people could answer to a degree, butâŚ
Well, think of this, we have left and right in our languages. We all know those are relative terms. My left and your left are different, most of the time. Anyway, there exists a tribe who donât have relative words for directions, and they only use cardinal directions, all the time. As in if theyâre hanging a painting, theyâd say âno, no, a bit to the northâ instead of âleftâ. On a tangent, it makes them very much immune to getting lost as they have incredible sense of direction for that reason. My point being that to us itâs simple that you just use left and right, why wouldnât you, when people know what it means and itâs simple. So why doesnât that tribe use them? Idk, itâs just not in their culture. Just like such strict classifications of sexual orientation werenât much of a thing in ancient and prehistoric times.

Cornelius: Yeah, donât worry, Bill, Lucius will look after you.
Lucius: Shut up, Cornelius!
Bill: Ahh, Lucius, erm, right, listen thereâs, erm, something I should explain.
Lucius: What?
Bill: This is probably just a really difficult idea. I donât like men that way.
Lucius: What? Not ever?
Bill: Nah, not ever. Only women.
NahâŚnot ever.
Lucius: Oh. Alright, yeah, Iâve got it. Youâre like Vitus then.
Bill: What?
Lucius: He only likes men.
Vitus: Some men. Better looking men than you, Lucius.
Lucius: I donât think itâs narrow-minded, I think itâs fine. You know what you like.
Bill: And you like both?
Lucius: Iâm just ordinary, I like men and women.
