My gentleman caller swung by for a drink of water so I brought out some food in a disposable bowl.
He was excited for pats and hungry but couldnāt finish the whole pouch. I managed to get a feel of his spine and that boy is knobbly. A few little bald patches in thin fur. And by the snuffly snorty nose, the occasional sneezes, and the creaky meow he might have an upper respiratory infection. He was breathing huffily in excitement while being patted so I think so. He finished eating and wandered a distance away to wash so I left the remainder out there. I came inside but removed my shoes at the door, and then washed my hands and clothes and showered to prevent bringing any diseases back to Melbcat.
Melbcat is being both clingy and sulky. Welcome home cheater.

Iām now trying to think if I can get him to the vet (as they wonāt treat an animal they havenāt seen). But I donāt want risk sending him to the shelter
I have a possum trap if heās feral level stray. My stray is feral but Iāve nowhere to send him if I catch him so I leave him be and keep the food and water up. He doesnāt immediately flee when I top off his food, so thatās an improvement.
Thanks, Iāve decided not to trap him though as I donāt want to risk him being euthanised by a shelter. The possum traps may also not be safe due to not being designed for cats and he in particular is quite large.
This guy is really friendly, he behaves like a pet. I could have been mistaken about the hissing, it could have been a hiss or it could have been a harsh exhale as he seems to huff and puff when excited.
For now the plan is to get some regular food down him and earn his trust to the point I can give some flea and worm treatment
public water is the water that is in nature
itās ok

Youāre an amazing person to consider helping a stray. We have such an incredible collection of humans in this thread!
