It is so much better if we actively choose to fight it when history tries to repeat itself. Maybe if a few more people had shouted down those chucklefucks back then we could still enjoy edgelord memes ironically today.
I’m all down for a post post modern retro future meme revival.
They aren’t even saying this is edgy in fact they like the meme. They’re just telling and informing us about the slippery slope that this sort of meme can give if a community isn’t aware of themselves. As an elder millennial on the internet, I agree with this sentiment that we should be careful with what kind of views and humor we share with each other. It should always be explicit that these jokes are jokes and not representative of the actual views of the community. Satire needs to remain satire
