Rye kernels and rye bread, sure, but not rye spirit. Bitter aromas generally don’t make it through the distillation process. Rye spirit does have a lot of oak tannins, but it shares that property with bourbon. I would agree that bourbon tastes somewhat “sweeter” than rye, but it’s a subtle difference.

Also, rye is a grain, not a herb.
