Comment on A majority of Australians support banning pro-Palestine marches
dockedatthewrongworf@aussie.zone 8 hours agoI’ll second that anecdotal comment. I was at a fundraiser for Ukraine earlier this year and there was a lot of frustration at how the Palestinian Israel conflict has had overwhelming support with protests and outcry from the general public but the invasion of Ukraine has been met with far less observed fervour and protests. I would imagine other groups feel harbour similar sentiments.

I mean, it’s not complicated. People protest against Israel’s genocide in Gaza because our government is supportive of the genocide. There’s an enormous amount of trade, diplomatic support, etc.
Our government is pretty strongly against Russia in that conflict, so there’s not much to protest against.

Yeah very much agree. The Palestine protests, exist in protest to the government’s actions. The reason they occur is because our government isn’t doing anything (or enough if you’re pedantic like that). It’s important that they keep happening because nothing is being done. There’s precedent for broad sanctions to countries that blatantly ignore human rights and international law; here’s the ones we gave to Russia:

It’s hypocritical not to do the same for Israel.
