Just because you drive on roads with dipshit drivers doesn’t mean it’s not law already. In the EU a meter distance when overtaking is normal.

SharkEatingBreakfast@sopuli.xyz 1 year agoWait, 3 feet??? That’s legally mandated??? What country do you reside in? I have cars coming within mere inches of me whenever I make the mistake of riding my bike on the road! Getting clipped twice as a teen by cars going 45 mph also instilled a huge fear into me, and I was absolutely hugging the curb!

I just checked my state laws. Apparently, the 3-feet law does exist! But I haven’t ever seen a single driver in my area adhere to it.

Personally, I don’t care if it’s legally mandated. It’s what is safe and I give bicycles 3 feet at minimum when I’m driving.

1.5m in Spain. Super rare for anyone to get closer and if it does it’s probably a tourist. All drivers will just follow you until it’s safe to pass even if you’re going uphill.
