Barring the communist instances, Reddit used to be equally left. Look at them now.
Comment on Is it realistic to hope that lemmy grows to the size of the bigger social media platforms?

No. I’m much more technology-literate than the average person, and while I appreciate the advantages of federation it annoys even me a lot of times.
Also, Lemmy is much further left than the average population and even reddit. So either it won’t grow to mainstream size because of that, or it will and the demographic will shift more to the center which will be off-putting to the original users.

Honestly, as a centrist I’ve thought about leaving Lemmy multiple times and this is by far the biggest reason. I know I can’t have an intelligent discussion with someone if I don’t agree with them and god forbid I bring up anything positive about religion, they will crucify me every time. It’s the equivalent of them putting their fingers in their ears and just yelling. No thanks.

Just send it man. Post and ignore the replies. If everyone who thought like you was to scared to post then you’d never know there were others.
There is no consequence to getting down voted on Lemmy. Its fine to go against the grain as long as you aren’t breaking rules.

That’s fair and appreciate the support. A reason I don’t sometimes is that I want to engage in discussion when I don’t have time or the energy. If I could turn off reply notifications for each post that would be helpful.

No the admins would ban those communities or defederate other instances that allow those communities.

But surely if all those people join the Fediverse and see my insightful comments they'll change their views to align with mine, won't they?

This, but in a hopeful voice instead of sarcastic 🙂
(Being surrounded by people who think more progressively will tend to shift people’s views)
