Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 10 months agoWe’ve had a marked drop in literacy and math skills in the last decade. We need to shore up those core skills before adding in any kind of social comparisons. The lack of understanding of nuance and context in text has directly led us to where we are in this country.

I agree that those are huge issues. I guess in my opinion, philosophy courses like what I described tend to improve literacy and math skills by requiring you read and write deliberately, think about the nuances of words, and build logical, self-consistent arguments/statements.
