You're not wrong. The idea that an aircraft tarmac would start to melt under what are basically the conditions of a hot summer day suggest a major failure somewhere. Hot summer days happen, even in England.

Please don't use the word tarmac.
Also the temperatures are not that different than other summers. 1-2 C° at most. Second airplane engines are getting much hoter than 40 C° and they blow that hot air at the runways/taxi ways all the time but they still survive. Third for the last few years the temperatures have started getting mesured near airports where it is much hotter than usual because of the above mentioned engines.
