I donât remember the exact number DB had to pay out for delay compensations that year but it was an embarrassing sum. Just today 2 separate people in my group chat were saying unsavory things about DBâs mother because of 30+ minute delays on two separate ICE trains.
German trains being on time is a myth.

While punctuality is not the German trains strong point, this is mostly due to congestion and construction sites. The trains as such are remarkably reliable.

if you want to know how well ICEs can perform with a functional rail network, look to Spainâs renfe. Itâs built by Siemens and basically an ICE with a purple strip.
