Kyle_The_G@lemmy.world â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠agoIâve actually come across this one in hematology, its used as a reagent in some analyzers to lyse red cells to release hemoglobin for direct measurement. source: Iâm a lab tech.

This sounds like a really pretty way of saying âstabbing someoneâ at first brush, tbh lol
Kyle_The_G@lemmy.world â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
lol, I guess its versatile. Red cells lyse fairly easily, if you just let them sit in water theyâll burst due to osmotic pressure (thats why we give people saline/salt water), this is just a really effective method of quickly bursting them I guess. The analyzers are pretty cool, when the dr orders a CBC/complete blood count its one instrument that measures hemoglobin, red cell indeces (red cell size, hemoglobin content, volume), platelets and a breakdown of your different white cell populations all within a few minutes. Blood is pretty cool, Iâm not a vampire.

No but youâre a petty lying bastard; we both know that sample wasnât clotted when I sent it!
Kyle_The_G@lemmy.world â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
haha! sorry bud, I gotta reject this one, send down another!
alaphic@lemmy.world â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Obviously not, youâre pretty clearly a ninja (i think lol). Also, Iâm not gonna lie, this kinda fascinates me because science, but I also have a low key medical phobia kinda thing so it squicks me out a little at the same time lol. My SO is actually a scientist as well (not medical/bio, tho, thankfully lol sheâs an environmental scientist) and I love it when she talks sci to me đ𤣠so I even recognize like all of the words you used and everything
Kyle_The_G@lemmy.world â¨3⊠â¨weeks⊠ago
Ya theres a very specific lingo. If sheâs in environmental science Iâd do all the water testing or whatever for chemicals, microbes. whenever they send stuff off to âthe labâ, thats me!
