jaybone@lemmy.zip 18 hours agoYeah the CD being cheaper than the USB drive is a great argument for this use case. Unfortunately you can then make the argument that it’s even cheaper to just upload the data to some website. Which then requires you to register, and then sells all your data, and then your private shit eventually ends up on the dark web when they get breached because they cheaped out on IT costs.

Redundant, privacy compliant storage is expensive. And then you have to deal with customer people that can’t figure things out, and then there’s the barrage of bots trying to break in. Optical media is dirt cheap and most people know what to do with it.
