Zero22xx@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 week agoPersonally I’m not a fan of comparing misfortunes as a way to feel better or worse about your own but I also think it’s basically a cultural thing that people do without really meaning any harm and something that you can’t expect everyone to have really thought about and corrected.

Unintentional harm is still harm. Ever try starting an apology with, “I didn’t mean to, but…”? Same reason why trying to explain why your culpability is lessened by your lack of intent toward the results of your actions might not be the best choice.
