Wrt to gaming and other entertainment media, it’s only easy to find the gems now because the dirt has mostly been sifted out of the old stuff. There’s a reason you still hear people talking about Cowboy Bebop, and not Brain Powerd

truxnell@aussie.zone 2 days agoFor sure! I definitely feel we’ve drastically slowed down but media is by no means dead. It can be harder to find the gems than before in some regards though.

Yeah that’s also true, tbh I’ve been notorious for not getting into’ anything - I don’t personally follow game news or hype much in the last 10-15 years, I’l wait until my friends pressure me into ‘you have to consume X!’, often well after it’s out and forgotten. I let my friends be the canary in the gold mine, still not sure if that makes me a bad friend… Has helped me avoid amazing TV shows that get cancelled/shit the bed though (still haven’t forgiven GoT producers)

Hnm that definitely applies to AAA games, although I feel like the power dynamics are just changing. We see more and more indie smash hits, compared to AAA hits imo

Yeah for sure, I’ve been fairly focussed on indies the last 5-7 years and only jump on AAA after it’s released and reviews are in/on special. I believe there’s only so large a human run corporation can be before it turns into an unmanageable mess and quality/focus of the product suffers, and most AAA are well past that point. Indies are the new small-medium sized fun Devs.
