It’s a cover story, she was trying to disappear and start a new life somewhere without extradition to get away from her life of crime before the consequences caught up with her. Bad luck to get caught up in your own search but you’d only attract more attention by walking back out through the group.

I feel like she purposely joined the search party. Why are they using the word “accidentally”?
Whether she knew she was looking for herself or not is a different matter.
