Soy beans are not the same as they used to be.

It’s possible your friend is just not trusting gene manipulated crops.
Most soy we put directly on our plates is no GMO, it’s organic and comes from the EU (at least here in Germany). But more than 80% of the global soy is fed to cattle, pigs snd chicken, that’s always GMO, that’s what the amazon gets burned for.
Funny how soy, eaten over centuries by billions of asians, seems strange to him. But drinking mothers milk from a different species that grows a small calve into a huge cow in just 6 months is completely fine.

You didn’t quote my whole sentence. Lifestock was the word I was looking for when I said “cattle, pigs and chicken”.
listing cattle first gave it undue weight so i wanted to point out how little soy goes to cattle.
about 85% of soy is pressed for oil. the industrial waste from that process is the vast majority of what is fed to livestock.
in order for 17% of all end uses of soy to be oil, you need to press 85% of the global crop in an oil press. the industrial waste is called “soy meal” or “soy cake” and you can see that’s the vast majority of what is fed to livestock.

Every plant is gene manipulated. Atleast the ones that u regularly eat they have all been gene manipulated for disease resistance, yield and also usually for the patent so u can sue farmers when the gmo seeds fly into their fields. Genetic manipulation isn’t bad just because it sounds scary it depends entirely on what ur manipulating it to become and how ur doing it.
