My thought is convergent evolution to a humanoid form from a mouse is weirder than a human obtaining mouse like features (naturally or otherwise).

That’s a big deal too. We always have to be vigilant about our dog’s ears during winter walks. When we get home they’re so cold to the touch. Sometimes he has to wear a snood, which he hates.
