Thank you! So is it a good thing or a bad thing? Like “this may not be an actual boil, but he’d have made one for me if he wanted to,” or “he would have made a full boil if he wanted to, so clearly he didn’t want to”?

What does “if he wanted to be would” mean here? Would what?

- Comment on "Can i ask you for a favor?" Is it rude to say no? 2 weeks ago:
You chose a seemingly intentionally rude way to respond. There’s a whole lot of ways to decline something, and it’s just as easy to be polite as not. “Sorry, I don’t have time,” even just “sorry” and keep walking are great options. Or you can choose to make someone feel bad just for asking/needing help with something. Not sure why you’d choose to make a stranger feel bad, but I guess that’s up to you.
And btw, the way you are responding to comments makes clear that, rather than genuinely asking this question, you are just looking for people to tell you it was ok to be rude.

Very helpful, thank you!
- Comment on Can someone define "liberal" (in its use as an insult) for me? 10 months ago:
Ahh that’s interesting, so the issue is as much having a conveniently shifting position as it is a further-right-than-progressives static position. Thanks a ton, that helps me understand a lot!
- Comment on Can someone define "liberal" (in its use as an insult) for me? 10 months ago:
Gotcha, so it means fake leftists almost? Does it imply someone is even further right than a current “centrist”? Or more like, “the center is right wing at this point, and so much so that even the Dems who are just left of center are still on the right [but therefore less than centrists still]”? This is not meant to be obstinate, your response was just very helpful and I want to bracket in on where folks consider liberals to be on the political spectrum so I can understand/use it properly.

- Comment on Would Nuclear Weapons be as destructive in ship to ship space combat, as they are on the ground in an atmosphere? 1 year ago:
The shock wave needs a medium (air) to travel through. So if the bomb was touching a ship, it would certainly transfer kinetic energy, but if there was any space (not air) between them, there is still no shockwave for the ship to feel.

Here in the US, a huge population goes straight to their phone any time they have more than 20 unoccupied seconds. It’s just reflex for many, not sure it’s specific to any given country at this point.
- Comment on Honest question: what was Hamas' long-game with respect to kidnapping Israelis? Did they think Israel would just negotiate rather than retaliate? 1 year ago:
That’s sorta classic supervillain logic. Doing terrible things just so someone else will have to do them too and in doing so “reveal” that they are “equally” monstrous. Israel has had some super fucked up policy for a long time, and I’m not defending that, but the approach of provoking them by committing your own war crimes knowing that it will lead to this much civilian suffering on all sides is even more fucked up.
