In my field it’s often general journal policy, not an individual choice. It’s hit or miss, as it can be easy to guess who the reviewer or author is in a niche field. I personally don’t go out of my way to figure out the author’s affiliation, even if it can be trivial. Regarding self citations, those are usually obfuscated at the review stage. I’d say that a paper is easy to narrow down to a circle of scholars, but it might be the first paper of a research associate, a throwaway paper by a PI, or a paper that aims to engage those narrow specialists. So is a kind of smoke screen.

I actually robot-fed my kitten from day one, so they basically don’t associate me with food at all, just with cuddles and reprimands.

Reminds me of this work by Latour. It goes into the tremendous amount of oftentimes political labor that goes into the establishment of new scientific knowledge as paradigmatic:

Well, what kind of sources did you find for the claims that you are actively stating as facts? I think it’s important to provide sources for claims as strong as these, regardless of whether you are a reporter or a veterinarian.

Any sources for these claims?

Whatever happened to Marx’ “ownership of the means of production” definition? Also, even beyond that, it makes sense to have an understanding that the precarity felt by an upper middle class person is not remotely the same kind of daily struggle faced by a lower middle class person. Not being able to afford property vs. not being able to afford food.
Ultimately it is important to recognize that all humans in the capitalist system are recruited to participate in an extractive, antihumanist global process.

- Comment on Suggestion: asking for the community's thoughts before defederating with an instance 1 year ago:
I mean, they’re voicing a position, much like you do. It’s important to not just have ‘exit’ approaches, ‘voice’ is important as a contribution to the development of a community. That doesn’t mean that an owner should be beholden to the users, but it’s perfectly fine to have dynamism and exchange in what instances are. We construct them collectively, and over time.
