Whoa, that is incredible. So you felt calm as it all unfolded? Did it feel surreal?
- Comment on Passengers thought mass train attack 'was a joke' 2 days ago:
I can’t explain this phenomenon, maybe someone else can, but I think we have expectations of how it “should” be or how we “should” feel when something terrifying happens.
In my experience which mirrors what some of the people describe in the article is that you feel quite normal. Everything is normal when a guy walks through a train brandishing a knife.
I think we expect to hear screaming and running, the cues for panic, but it often doesn’t start like that.
I assume most of what I’m describing comes down to the bystander effect - a very real and powerful effect

Just to add: there was an embargo on releasing the patch and information about the patch, but some website or something broke the embargo.
That meant that malicious people could read what the patch was doing and understand how to exploit the issue/bug.

Seems like an overly harsh comment. Sounds like a genuine accident.
- Comment on Jury sworn in for Russell Brand trial on rape and sexual assault charges 3 weeks ago:
If he is found guilty it will be interesting to see if Katherine Ryan comes forward and names him.
She has previously talked about someone high profile being a sexual predator but won’t disclose who, presumably for legal reasons.
- Comment on ‘We have to bring the benefits bill down’: Healey signals return to welfare reform 5 weeks ago:
To be fair, having read the article, it seems reasonable to not have a bigger welfare bill, presumably bugger than previous years.
“And the best thing, especially for young people who at the moment are too often locked out of any future, the best thing we can offer is not a benefits payment, but a first job with a wage and with a future.”
It sounds to me like the proposal is to help cut the welfare bill by providing ways for people to gain jobs, which seems completely reasonable.
Doesn’t that seem fair, to provide skills and training instead of just money?

- Comment on Landlords quitting “in droves” since Renters’ Rights Act 1 month ago:
Hahaha! Good. That gets rid of the shit landlords. The changes aren’t even that dramatic. You can’t get rid of a tenant if they haven’t done anything wrong, is one of the new changes. If that makes a landlord “quit” then good riddance
- Comment on How can we revitalise the high street? 2 months ago:
I don’t want to encourage people to drive, but free parking would help. Or the first hour is free or something.
- Comment on When do we riot? 2 months ago:
I think you need to find like minded people. Look for action groups near you. For example in the UK there is Extinction Rebellion or Take Back Power.
As you meet more like minded people you can help cause change.
And then it’s a case of talking to people and sharing ideas without pushing your agenda.
- Comment on Boy George pulled from West End performance run after releasing pro-Israel song 2 months ago:
I think if you read up on how Israel have treated Palestinian’s over the past few decades you will see that one side is clearly abusing their position of power, and treating Palestinians as second rate citizens.
I don’t even know where to begin but how about Israeli snipers shooting unarmed civilians, including children: factually.co/…/israeli-snipers-shooting-children-…
Plus there is an international arrest warrant for Netanyahu for war crimes
- Comment on ‘You say genocide, I say war’: Boy George releases pro-Israel song, We Will Dance Again 3 months ago:
I didn’t intentionally avoid the term. The United Nations says it’s genocide so it’s genocide.
And my point about Israelis is just to clarify or remind people that not all Israeli’s agree.
I have this aversion to everyone being grouped together and blamed.
There are Israelis and Jewish people who agree that the Israeli government is committing genocide.
- Comment on ‘You say genocide, I say war’: Boy George releases pro-Israel song, We Will Dance Again 3 months ago:
FFS. No one who has really thought about what is happening is condeming Jewish people.
Being Jewish is not the same as being a Zionist.
And being Israeli does not mean you support what is Israel is doing.
And with that said, fuck Boy George and his ridiculous stance. What is happening in Palestine, and has been happening for years, is completely disproportionate to the attack made by Hamas.
And fuck Netanyahu. There’s an international arrest warrant out for him.

- Comment on Ministers urged to curb energy costs as Great British homes face 13% bill surge 4 months ago:
Would it not make sense for the government to subsidise solar panels and heat pumps?
They could generate work for companies, increase employment in theory, and make it affordable for people to utilise greener energy. In turn we would not be as dependent on fossil fuels and their rising / fluctuating costs.
Genuinely interested to see if anyone agrees or disagrees… Maybe I’m oversimplifying things…

And then it gets worse! - Comment on Parking industry leader: 'If the signs are unclear, park somewhere else' | ITV News 1 year ago:
Top tip: Provided you’ve not received a PCN from the council… do not pay, and do not contact the company EVER, not even to contest the PCN.
These parking charges are a civil matter, not criminal, and essentially the parking operator is claiming you broke a contract with them, which you had agreed to when you parked your car.
If you refuse to pay they can take you to court but are unlikely to, and they can only claim the reasonable damages of you breaking the contract.
You will likely receive threatening letters from the parking operator up until you actually go to court.
Any threats of bailiffs is total BS. Only the court can send bailiffs and only if you don’t pay what the court has demanded.
As the article says, these companies make their money by people paying uncontested fines.

I’m not advocating for @Flax at all here, but I think it’s generally accepted that someone called Jesus (there were a LOT of people named Jesus back in the day) did exist and was something of a teacher.
Son of god though?.. no
