Star Wars is dead. Long live…wait, no…sorry, it’s definitely dead.
- Comment on Woman Calls 911 When 100 Aggressive Raccoons Show Up in Her Yard | The Washington State resident fed some friendly critters for years. Then, their mean friends turned up. 5 weeks ago:
It’s not a hard problem to solve, raccoons are very smart, and if you stop feeding him, they’ll eventually disperse.
In the meantime, it’s kind of a cute oafish story. Feeling a wild raccoon isn’t going to make it forget how to scavenge, or take care of itself. If you live in a remote area, probably not doing any long-term damage to their wild habits, aside from this one feeding ground they will have to move on from.
Aside from her not having a game plan for getting around a raccoon bum rush, the biggest concern I would have would be that raccoons are a reservoir species for rabies in the area.
Not sure when exactly this raccoon party fully kicked off, but they’re breeding season is spring and summer, which I believe coincide with a spike in rabies transmission…so…not ideal.

Not really, unless there’s a way to secure public funding for them, this seems like a reasonable Middle road.
Like a Patreon, which will having its own unique set of problems, also enables a paid content distribution system for independent creators unlike anything else available.
So, unlike inserting invasive advertising, and lacking public funds, I see know how else they’re supposed to maintain infrastructure and development costs.
- Comment on Does alcohol expire? Specifically whiskey? 5 weeks ago:
Your list of semi non-perishable foods does need a some caveats about storage, because most of those things can absolutely bad, depending on how they were stored.
Frozen meat can spoil, as not all bacterial growth stops, some just slows down a whole lot. So if Grandma threw in a store plastic wrapped store bought tray of chicken quarters, after being in the fridge for 3 days, and now it’s 8 years later, those might not be safe for human consumption.
Stuff that was vacuum sealed, much more likely to last the long haul in the freezer, if done properly.
Long-term stored grain, when not in vacuum sealed or other airtight containers, can develop molds or other bacterial contaminations.
Improperly stored vinegar, if you try to use it…it will ruin your salad dressing, and taste like shit. But it’s pretty easy to see my vinegar has gone ick.
Can’t say I’ve ever seen moldy or spoiled vinegar, but I’ve seen the type of kitchens that would be capable of making it happen in a long enough time frame.
I’ve also never seen bad pasta or beans, but I imagine they carry the same long-term storage concerns as grains, even if they’re probably a bit more durable.
- Comment on Does alcohol expire? Specifically whiskey? 5 weeks ago:
Aging for whiskey and scotch is done in specialized wood barrels with specific environmental conditions, not in the bottle.
If they’ve been opened for a long time, it’s always possible some evaporation, or other slight changes have occurred that may impact taste, but still perfectly safe. Assuming it’s 80 proof and up.
Any hard liquor should be safe, even if it taste is degraded.
Throw out open wines if you’re not comfortable determining if they’re still consumable and not spoiled.

I’m still waiting for you to tell me what conspiracy theories I’m trolling with.
Cuz it seems like to me one of us is actually aware of the economic indicators, and broader economic trends, and the other, is you.
- Comment on All the Good Economic News Vindicates Bidenomics 5 weeks ago:
Let’s agree, to disagree, and where the economy is going to end up.
That’s not relevant here, because this article, and many of the commenters, contend that it’s already doing good, and it has been doing good for some years now.
Which was my entire point, that it’s smoking mirrors, mixed using intentionally disingenuous figures like raw job numbers, and stock market performance, as if that translates to the wider economy of the working class.
- Comment on All the Good Economic News Vindicates Bidenomics 5 weeks ago:
So what you’re saying is, is that Biden really wants to help the economy, and he wants it to be better, but it’s too big for that to happen?
I’m sorry, setting aside the pedantic nature of your grade school math problem turned economics analogy, it actually supports my contention that the New York Times is blowing smoke up our collective asses.
- Comment on All the Good Economic News Vindicates Bidenomics 5 weeks ago:
Which conspiracy theories have I resorted to? Please explain.
Are you going to make me go get data showing that wages have not risen relative to the recent periods of hyper nflation?
I’m sorry, is that a secret? A hidden truth?
Say the word, you tell me that you didn’t know that, and I will go pull the reports for you.
- Comment on All the Good Economic News Vindicates Bidenomics 5 weeks ago:
Wait, are you kidding?
You lay out completely bogus and rig stats to support your case.
But when I call out how bogus and rig those stats are, that’s a really dumb take?
Okay buddy. Got it.
- Comment on All the Good Economic News Vindicates Bidenomics 5 weeks ago:
Saying inflation is down to normal levels, is like saying your house is no longer on fire… because it already burnt down.
So now that we’ve addressed that pretty blatant spin on inflation levels, let’s go on to how wages are outpacing it.
Because of course, you don’t mean wages have kept up with inflation through his administration. You just want you compare some conveniently specific points in time where you can higher that stat to work in your rhetorical favour.
And do I really have to explain why using the number of jobs as a stat, instead of quality of jobs, it’s just more MSNBC, NYT, and Harris campaign smoke and mirror BS?
- Comment on All the Good Economic News Vindicates Bidenomics 5 weeks ago:
It’s not insults, I’m pointing out that I’ve heard that exact same speech on MSNBC, and that’s very good campaign rhetoric.
I’m sorry that you feel insulted because I called out your plagiarizing talking points, but it’s Lemmy, I see most users plagiarize at least some of their comments.
- Comment on All the Good Economic News Vindicates Bidenomics 5 weeks ago:
Wow you’ve really internalized MSNBC talking points. And I mean that literally, I’m pretty sure I heard those exact same words from one of multiple anchors in the last several weeks.
Like I said, glad to hear everything is all going great, just like MSNBC pundits and NYT op-ed are claiming.
Honestly, you should volunteer for the Harris campaign. Already got your door knocking elevator pitch down pat.
- Comment on All the Good Economic News Vindicates Bidenomics 5 weeks ago:
Take your pick, you can’t have it both ways.
Either Biden’s economic policies have been great for the economy, and everyone saying otherwise is just spreading this information, or misinformed.
Or, his policies have helped a certain class of wealthy Americans, while leaving the rest of the middle and working to decline, just like every other administration of the last 40 years.
So which is it?
- Comment on All the Good Economic News Vindicates Bidenomics 5 weeks ago:
Oh great, I guess there’s no real problems then, and everyone’s is just hallucinating their economic troubles into existence.
Thank God the New York times editorial board is there to clear that up for us.

Popularity is financial success.
These aren’t indie arthouse flicks, they’re enormous investment vehicles for the studios, and they’re failing.
They’re failing because they aren’t popular anymore, not enough people care about them to sustain the studios in the medium or long term.
When I said no one was watching them, you conveniently found that to be a very literal argument. When clearly in this context “no one’s watching them anymore”, refers to their box office receipts relative to their cost to produce.
So, to answer my own question in the appropriate context, no, no one’s watching them anymore. But to answer in terms you’ll understand, the audience has shrunk so much that they’re no longer consistent profitable investments. Which is why they’ve scrapped so many projects, including multiple shows that has already began production.
- Comment on Sam Raimi to direct ‘Doctor Strange 3' 1 month ago:
You know they have canceled the majority of the Disney Plus shows they had in the pipeline, and in production, right…? The wheels came off, a year ago.
This article is takes a rosier view by not listing all the shows they canceled or permanently delayed, like Iron Heart, but you can find a complete list if you’re so inclined to search for a few minutes.

Two of the three movies you named, lost hundreds of millions of dollars…
- Comment on Sam Raimi to direct ‘Doctor Strange 3' 1 month ago:
And you really think that Deadpool’s performance has reversed the fortunes of the MCU….?
Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think audiences I forgotten that the Deadpool franchise that was made successful outside of MCU, much less X-Men.
Point is, call me skeptical that that the enthusiasm for that one off event, will be carried over into the next MCU turd they plop into theaters.
- Comment on Sam Raimi to direct ‘Doctor Strange 3' 1 month ago:
Does anyone actually watch MCU movies anymore…?
Honest question, I saw every film from mid phase 1 to Endgame, in theaters.
Then came Disney Plus, Loki was great, Wanda vision was different, and the rest range from forgettable, to complete garbage.
I would rewatch Agents or SHIELD, and any Netflix Marvel show (sans Iron Fist), a dozen times each, before I ever paid for another MCU movie.
Before you dismiss me of some hater, I used really enjoy the MCU. I even tried to watch Agatha, and gave it like 2 1/2 episodes before I couldn’t take it anymore, it’s bad.
- Comment on Explain why the US bail system is not insane 1 month ago:
What I meant is that OP was asking for a response that not many, if any users hear, could deliver here with any conviction or belief.
You might as well be asking for users here to share when it was they knew Trump was the best president of their lifetime. Just the wrong audience for that question, assuming you want a sincere response.
- Comment on Explain why the US bail system is not insane 1 month ago:
It’s just as insane as asking this question on Lemmy.
No offense, but you’d have better luck on Reddit, which has at least a larger number of users who don’t veer as far left as the average Lemmy user, as well as decent numbers of actual conservative and MAGAs.
But yes, like the rest of the commenters here, I agree it is insane, prejudicial, and one of the most clear cut examples of systemic racism.

No… Containers are just sandboxed sessions.
The cookies and other site data they gather, will remain and able to track your browsing habits within that container.
They’re very useful, and I highly recommend using them, but they’re nowhere near as convenient as opening up a single incognito tab to read a shitty article on a shitty website. Once I’m done reading it, all I have to do is close that incognito session, return to Lemmy, rinse and repeat.
Do whatever works best for you, but just be aware that you seem to be under some important misconceptions about what data is saved between different types of browsing sessions, or how certain privacy features work.
- Comment on All the Disney+ films and TV shows that have been deleted from the service 1 month ago:
Incognito mode will basically put all the cookies and other site data into a temp directory.
So, they can track you across that session as long as you keep it open, like if you went from the article to your banking or online shopping websites.
But, once you close out of that session, that directory should be cleared.
Just make sure you don’t use incognito or private modes with a bunch of sites, at the same time, that you don’t want to share information between.
- Comment on I found a weird IP address on my network that had transmitted an insanely small amount of data. I put the address in my browser and got this. what the heck am I looking at? 1 month ago:
I think you can enable IIS, or at least a version of, under Windows Features for Windows 10 Pro/Edu installs.
But someone can correct me if I’m wrong about that.
- Comment on All the Disney+ films and TV shows that have been deleted from the service 1 month ago:
My default browsers, on mobile and desktop, both open incognito/private tabs by default.
I’ll still click no, or don’t accept, if it pops up, but when a page is shitty like this, I’m not too worried about them collecting data on how I browser this page while reading this one article.

Who’s talking about investing…? I’ve exclusively been talking about what LLMs can do now, today, for free (aside from energy costs).
None of what your throwing out there has anything to do with what’s being discussed here. It’s a red herring.
- Comment on OpenAI Is A Bad Business 1 month ago:
I mean, it probably will, but that has nothing to do with LLMs, nor is it a technology that I want to exist.
I can definitely see a world where lobbyists for automakers and insurance companies create such a regulatory burden, where only the wealthy can afford to drive their own cars, if they choose to. Where as everyone else must rent or lease their self driving car as is if it’s a IaaS or SaaS subscription.
But none of that has anything to do with using LLMs for the tasks they can accomplish, or telling people to bitching about them not being able to complete the tasks they aren’t good at, or even capable of.
- Comment on OpenAI Is A Bad Business 1 month ago:
Yes and no, I have self-hosted models on one of my Linux boxes, but even with a relatively modern 70 series Nvidia GPU, it’s still faster to use free non-local services like ChatGPT or DDG.
My rule of thumb is to never enter in any data that I wouldn’t also be willing to upload cleartext to Google Drive or OneDrive.
Sometimes that means modifying text before submitting it, and other times having to rely entirely on self-hosted tools.
