The was quite literally the playbook of Andrew Wakefield when he published the 1998 fraudulent paper in the Lancet that purported to link MMR vaccines to autism, kicking off our entire modern round of anti-vax nonsense.
He stood make millions selling test kits to people suddenly fearful of vaccination, IIRC. They’re all scum, seeking to rake in money on the very fears they’ve stoked.
- Comment on What show are you surprise managed to finish, or get many seasons out of it at least, and avoid cancellation? 5 months ago:
Fringe was the last one I noticed as having a particular run of luck, just squeezing by season after season.
Netflix has burned me so bad I no longer watch their series until they’re done. Not the best way to be sure of getting new seasons, but I’m over watching fun stuff that gets killed after a single season.

While I wouldn’t say that’s right, I also wouldn’t come right out and call it wrong either. This very much engages with the “Selfish Gene”, an heuristic model of thinking about evolution from the perspective of the gene itself instead of populations.
As an added amusement, the book “The Selfish Gene” came out in 1976, and is the source of the word “meme,” used somewhat differently than it is now, naturally.
