Sony Pictures has announced that it will stop distributing UHD/HD/DVD discs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland because streaming is becoming increasingly important. Warner Bros. is also taking a similar approach here. Source (German News Article)
I personally interpret this as the beginning of the end. I think it’s a shame because I’m a collector. I love to look at my film shelf.

Yes, I understand that well.
It’s annoying to wait for a release and it just doesn’t come. That’s what happened to me with the last season of the Battlestar Galactica release - a German TV station had the rights to it and the box set didn’t come out for years. And since then I don’t buy series anymore, only movies.
By the way… it’s amazing how often the movie industry itself has tried to ruin collecting for me. And now the UHD disc itself is already going downhill.

When I buy movies, I prefer physical media, even if they may be more expensive. The quality of a UHD Blu-Ray simply cannot be topped in the home cinema sector.
When it comes to video rentals (48h as a stream), I prefer Amazon Prime because - yes - I had tried that one first. Years ago, I also tried YouTube for a single movie, but the quality didn’t convince me (years ago).
