- Comment on Pelicans acquire Poole in 4-player deal 3 days ago:
I read something earlier but I forget where. The analyst said that Washington wanted CJ McCollum’s expiring contract to trade at the deadline (or whenever) Poole has another year so the Pelicans can wait to see how it plays out.
Olynyk for Bey saves the Pelicans money. He signed his extension while hurt so it was very team-friendly. The Pels were close to the cap and saving a little money basically allows for them to spend more on the mid-level exception.
So, I guess it’s all just salary cap related. The Pels get more flexibility and the Wizards get an expiring contract they can trade for picks later.
- Comment on Pacers Become First Team in NBA History to Have 8 Different Players Score at least 200 Points in Playoffs 1 week ago:
Halliburton, Siakam, Obi Toppin, and everyone else plays defense and is unselfish too. Rick Carlisle is a great coach. And OKC’s stars aren’t as experienced with playoff basketball. They’re more talented and obviously will be the favorites in a game 7 at home. SGA might go off and score 50. But winning the regular season in the NBA is way different than winning a 7 game series against experienced players who have been there before. Even the refs make different foul calls in the playoffs.
I have high expectations for OKC and SGA is the best player in the league but this Pacers roster is kind built for playoff basketball.
- Comment on The Grizzlies are trading Desmond Bane to the Magic for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four unprotected first-round picks and one first-round pick swap, sources tell Shams Charania. 1 week ago:
Are draft picks just not valuable anymore? I wouldn’t give up 4 first round picks for anyone but an established superstar.

I might be the poster child for medicinal use. I never really enjoyed getting high and I’ve gone to many Dead and Company and Widespread shows. So, I’m not an amateur or in favor of restricting drugs but I normally just say “No thanks.” when I’m the rotation. Most strains make me itchy or tired and antisocial. Everyone’s brain chemistry is different. For me, I either had fun or (more often) just felt miserable.
When I developed an anxiety disorder, I tried everything else. And some pharmaceutical pills do work but it takes like 30 minutes for a pill to work. But I found a strain and dose that works in 2 or 3 minutes. I’m not saying everyone will have the same experience but it should be legal everywhere. People who don’t even smoke recreationally testify that it’s got fewer negative side effects and helps. If it were a novel drug, it’d easily get FDA clearance.

A lot has gone backwards since then but at least cannabis is legal in most places (even if only medicinally). I have a prescription and being able to know the strain and dose is actually really important.
I just have random anxiety attacks and a small-to-medium dose of Granddaddy Purp works better than any traditional medicine I’ve tried. Benzos just make me sleep. I can at least function with the right dose and strain and I can be certain about it buying from a dispensary. And my case is minor. It’s way more important for people with stomach cancer or whatever who have no appetite. The right dose and strain makes them hungry and happy. I don’t think there’s an equivalent pharmaceutical. Every state/country should make medicinal marijuana legal. Otherwise, people buy it off a dealer and can’t measure the dose or know the strain.

South Carolina used to do that. Like even at fancy restaurants, they would open an airplane bottle to make your cocktail.

One some level, I respect the sacrifice but on another level, I’d probably make James Dolan pay me my money right now and have Charles Oakley come watch me deposit the check.
- Comment on It Would Take 'Star Level Player' for LeBron to Take Pay Cut 11 months ago:
I don’t know if this is true of basketball, specifically, but there’s been examples of players’ unions objecting to a deal. The ones I remember were in baseball and about restructuring a contract. But there’s definitely an unwritten rule that players shouldn’t take too much less than they’re worth in solidarity with other players (who would no doubt be pressured to make the same sacrifices even if they don’t have a billion dollar Nike contract).
It seems like there’s less pressure to follow that rule if a player is nearing retirement and chasing a first ring or has other goals. And the Lakers just drafted Lebron’s unproven son who recently had a heart attack. It’s gotta be unprecedented even if Bronny was a legit prospect before the health scare.

I guess Ingram is definitely getting traded now.

I didn’t even know he was pregnant. It’s a testament to his athleticism that he played so hard while great with child.

- Comment on [NBPA] A statement from the NBPA on the Orlando Magic’s recent political donations. 1 year ago:
The DeVos family might be the dumbest to ever walk the Earth. They seem to want nothing more than to destroy public education and I have no idea how you even become dumb enough to want more dumbasses. I would think a terrible private school taught them public school is bad but I’ve known plenty of people who went to private and parochial schools and none of them, no matter how bad their education, thought universal K-12 education is somehow bad.
Betsy DeVos is so dumb, she was caught off-guard by everything bad Trump did despite being in the fucking cabinet meetings.
- Comment on Why do we not eat pig or cow? 1 year ago:
It’s because of the Norman conquest of England. Basically, the ruling nobility spoke French and the lower classes spoke English. The peasants who were in charge of livestock spoke English so pig, cow, and chicken stuck around. But it was mostly the upper classes who ate the meats so they used French words at the dinner table (beef from boeuf, pork from porc, poultry from poulet, etc.).
