- Comment on LittleBigPlanet 3 Servers Are Officially Shut Down Indefinitely, Sony Confirms 6 months ago:
Agreed. But not impossible. Insignia got original Halo 2 Xbox Live servers back online. Most nights you can find a game easily with 20-40 people online during peak hours. It requires a soft mod and maybe 1-2 hours of set up to get online. If anyone could just turn on their old Xbox and play, I’m confident those numbers would be in the hundreds at least.
Allowing people to run private servers is an easy way to allow those that want to play to keep playing in an era where most games have some level of online functionality.

One of their ideas is allow private match/self hosted online services for any game that shuts down it’s servers.

Watched about the first half this morning before going to the store. Got to the point where the student of the year’s shirtless dad was lurking in the background and started getting interviewed. First, what a fucking weirdo. Gives off weird incest vibes.
My personal experience with DARE was fun when we were introduced in 5th grade. Got us away from normal class. I did win some essay contest on why drugs are bad mkay and got a frisbee which was cool. However I had to read the essay in front of the whole grade which I hated.
We got a tshirt for completing the program. I made it a cutoff at someone and made a point to rock it anytime I was trying a new drug in college.
- Comment on Anyone else travel to see the eclipse just to have clouds come in right before totality? 7 months ago:
We got very lucky in SE Indiana. Drive which is normally an hour (we went to in laws house) was 1.5.
Clear skies the entire time and a beautiful day in the mid 70s.
My parents flew in south TX thinking they would outsmart the weather and ended up being covered in clouds.

What a great piece of storytelling. Those doors opening and seeing all those guns pointed at you. “Guess I’m going to have to commit genocide” was my first thought quickly followed by “oh no, wait, what’s happening!?”

Oh monster was the worst! I signed up well over 10 years ago and had unsubscribed several times over multiple months once I found a job. They still would send emails 5 days a week. I blocked them and will never ever use them again because of their awful spam. If anyone’s curious, I did not find the job through monster.
- Comment on stupid smart TVs 10 months ago:
I’ve refused to hook my TV up to the internet. Massive bloatware and spyware machine. I bought high end. Samsung 70" top of the line last year. But everything I watch is though a jailbroken 4k firestick or straight up on disc.
It’s a pain in the ass to switch inputs. THERES NO INPUT BUTTON. It wants to choose FOR ME what input I’m using based off the most recent input. Lick my balls. I’ll switch from the first stick to the Xbox but if the fire stick is still streaming I’ll choose the Xbox and it’ll switch back to the firestick. Fuck you. I can’t even imagine if I let that thing connect to the internet. It’d probably want a huge update, send everything I watch back to hq, and then try to show me ads. Fuck you Koreans.
It’s a great tv. Top of the line picture quality. But it’s about as good as it gets in this age. If I was more tech savvy I could probably make it better but I’m not.

Seconded. I’m about 9 months into revanced after vanced got shut down and its virtually identical. 15 min install with easy step by step guides to enjoy the good youtube has to offer without all the shit.
Also you can add or remove features you like/dislike which is a big benefit.
- Comment on Paid full price and got this in the mail (open box). GameStop and I have different definitions of “new” 1 year ago:
I try to patronize my local game shops as much as I can. I’m not into card or board games which limits where I go but I’m lucky enough to have a few local game stores that sell a lot of retro games for fair prices.
Of course with new games (I still like to buy physical quite often) I generally have to buy from the big stores but I make it a point to avoid gamestop.
- Comment on Paid full price and got this in the mail (open box). GameStop and I have different definitions of “new” 1 year ago:
Return that immediately. I worked for gamestop for about 6 years from 11-16. It was a horribly run company that should be a relic of the past like circuit city and blockbuster. Executive management would rather mild tiny profits than make pro-consumer changes that would draw in gamers (things like tournaments were actively discouraged).
I really hated that gamestop became a meme stock. It meant executive made a lot of money from no effort on their own. I would have much rather seen their shares go to zero and then get bought for pennies on the dollar, leaving the top brass on their ass.

It probably took me 2 years to migrate fully. I forward most things. Reality is 95% of emails are pointless spam.
- Comment on Outlook junk mail 1 year ago:
So I’ve noticed spam comes in waves. My gmail account will go months and be more or less fine and then in a period of a week I’ll get several dozen spam emails like “HoMe DePoT PoWeR DrIlL WiNnER” and the like. I always report spam and block.
My hotmail account on the other hand. I stopped checking and migrated every important account to gmail because I was getting spamming by the dozen every single day.

This went from a cool concept of “people liked Black Flag let’s spin off of that” through years of development hell to whatever this is. Sucks, coulda been cool.
- Comment on Are American tv shows stuck in Act 2 for their entire runtime between season 1 and final season? 1 year ago:
You see that a lot for sure. One show that stands out in my mind of continually moving the plot forward is Breaking Bad. The ‘villain’ changes throughout the show, Walt has an evolving relationship with Skylar and Walt Jr, and motives change as well for Walt and Jesse. Completely different show from beginning to end.
SPOILER: it’s a well known fact that season 1 was shortened due to the last writers strike and had that not happened Jesse would have been killed off at the end of the season. This show very well could have suffered the same fate OP prescribes to most shows since Jesse is so pivotal to the shows overall success. So maybe we should look for shows who’s first season is currently being cut short by this writer’s strike and that will be the next great show.
- Comment on who sets these prices? 1 year ago:
Sony ultimately sets the price. They were $60 at launch but most video game accessories and even games now have increased from the standard $60 people got used to to now $65 and $70. I don’t have a link but I recall reading that inflation adjusted, gaming has held up very well as there were games back in the N64 era and maybe before that sold for $60-70+.
Only other thought is Sony has moved on to PS5 and they make less of the controllers which in turn makes them more expensive to produce and thus increase in cost to the end consumer. I know Xbox has done a good job making controllers from the Xbox One generation to the current gen all work very easily together. I don’t think Sony has done the same thing.
