Nah, I wanted rifle to be a bayonette fencing weapon or maybe it could have been used like a blunderbuss. I think, since greatsword is long range on Mesmer, rifle should have been a melee weapon. I don’t know how useful this would have been, but in this regard I prefer style over anything else.

Sounds interesting. I thought the writing team was often held back by the realities of game development. The Icebrood Saga, for example, was rushed to completion just as the story started to get interesting. I hope they start telling stories that are more self-contained for now, ideally with a villain that you can love to hate like Bangar or Joko. Saving all of Tyria from yet another world ending threat gets boring after the fifth time.
