- Comment on Hollywood stars and geeks unite to billionaire-proof social media 1 week ago:
Technically speaking, what’s the relationship between the “AT protocol” and the rest of the fediverse, like mastodon and Lemmy?

Anybody with a tldw or should I get an AI summary?
- Comment on Albania declares one-year TikTok ban over stabbing 4 weeks ago:
I’m sure Amogus and Doom 2 had something to do with it also
- Comment on Google seeks to undo Epic Games antitrust win over app store 1 month ago:
This would be so much more of a clear cut case if Apple hadn’t won in Epic’s suit against them for the same reason. That was a bad call, and now with that inconsistency, Google’s argument holds some water.
- Comment on Multilingual, open source and a 'distinctly European perspective': Germany's Fraunhofer Institute's OpenGPT-X research project releases large language model 1 month ago:
Is fraunhofer the group that used to / still do sue other organizations over video codec use? I assumed it was a company but apparently not?

Did they say why?
- Comment on AI Slop Is Flooding Medium 2 months ago:
How well does the “AI detection startup’s” product work? This is a big unsolved problem but I’d be hecka skeptical.

What if you found a portal to a parallel universe? What if you could slide into a thousand different worlds where it’s the same year, and you’re the same person but everything else is different? And what if you can’t find your way home?
- Comment on The LLMentalist Effect: how chat-based Large Language Models replicate the mechanisms of a psychic’s con 5 months ago:
There is no reason to believe that it thinks or reasons—indeed, every AI researcher and vendor to date has repeatedly emphasised that these models don’t think.
Geoffrey Hinton, for one

What was this program?
- Comment on EU Citizen's initiative to pass legislation to stop game publishers disabling games we paid for 5 months ago:
Good question. Presumably games like this will have a server that is proprietary, and the compulsion may simply be to make the server source or executables available

- Comment on AI Is Already Taking Jobs in the Video Game Industry 5 months ago:
No, generative ai is a blanket term that covers them both. Lots of people are both forcefully opinionated about this topic, and clueless. Like the person you’re responding to

I am… very interested in the particulars of this zero knowledge system.

A lot of people don’t seem to “get” digital privacy and this is really well articulated. Will be sharing when it comes up

- Comment on Apple Vision Pro U.S. Sales Are All But Dead, Market Analysts Say 6 months ago:
I happened to be in the apple temple to supplicate the priests there for an exorcism for one of my other infernal contraptions. I saw the vision pro sitting around while he did his incantations so I thought I’d check it out and it turns out they won’t let you without an appointment. It’s like they don’t want to sell these

You can disable so-called essential components and I believe it ships without almost any of the bloat. So essentially you could just take one drive out. Or at least that’s my hope

- Comment on Facial recognition startup Clearview AI settles privacy suit in the U.S. by giving plaintiffs a share of the company’s potential value, rather than a traditional payout, over lack of liqudity 6 months ago:
More like, “they will be offered part of the proceeds of any further watches we steal.”
I don’t know if I’m personally part of the class, but if I am, as relief I would want an injunction for them to fucking leave me alone, not shares in their operation.
