- Comment on What TV series suffered by introducing an unnecessary romance between characters? And in the reverse, are there any TV series that suffered by NOT introducing a romance between two characters? 9 hours ago:
I didn’t even make it though half of s2e1, it just has no ‘grab’ for me anymore.
- Comment on Lemmy.world is blocked in UAE and you don't allow using VPN/Tor to post. what is the solution here? 9 hours ago:
Just use another server. No specific reason to be on that one.
- Comment on Is it possible to switch instances without making a new account? 2 weeks ago:
It can be hard to find content if your home server doesn’t interact with it enough.
- Comment on Is it possible to switch instances without making a new account? 2 weeks ago:
Most common reason is you don’t like how the server you’re on is run, or it doesn’t fit your hobbies well.
- Comment on Micro Thor vs. LoRa question 3 weeks ago:
Yeah sounds like a fun thing to try out
- Comment on Micro Thor vs. LoRa question 3 weeks ago:
Neat idea! Nothing is really going to go through multiple buildings in a city, so your best bet might be the ham bands that like to bounce off the atmosphere, bypassing the city entirely.
- Comment on Micro Thor vs. LoRa question 3 weeks ago:
LF/HF data modes generally have extremely long range, often to the other side of the planet in the right conditions. But Thor maxes out at 22 bps, whereas LoRa is in the 5 kbps - 20 kbps range, nearly 1000 times faster.
CB/11M band would likely get some good range with a low baud data mode. However a 4W CB radio is going to consume a massive amount of power and be very large physically compared to a LoRa device.
- Comment on CAPTCHAs are 'a tracking cookie farm for profit that made us spend 819 billion hours clicking to generate nearly $1 trillion for Google 1 month ago:
Cloudflare turnstile is also the only captcha system that works ok with most browsers and adblockers.
Especially Google recaptcha freaks out if you use Firefox or an adblocker or anything and asks you the hardest possible questions.
- Comment on Introducing Battlefield Labs | Battlefield Studios 1 month ago:
I’m not sure having a rate limit on signups means anything for what kind of users they’re looking for. The site was actually down last night probably from the sheer amount of traffic hitting it.
- Comment on Not enough people buying Premium, eh? 2 months ago:
I haven’t noticed any issues on Firefox, can also use an add-on to force specific quality.
- Comment on Which side of this dipole is ground? 2 months ago:
The side with the ground wire (shield), so left side on the photo.
- Comment on Not enough people buying Premium, eh? 2 months ago:
That actually makes more sense to me compared to most premium features. Higher quality directly costs more money to stream.
- Comment on Funko gets community noted 3 months ago:
Funko and their “partner” should be fined for fraud.
- Comment on What happened to gaming? 3 months ago:
The bubble of AAA gaming and reviews/benchmarks definitely has that kind of thing going on. But you can really just ignore that subset entirely and have so many good games to play from smaller studios and devs.
- Comment on Silent but Deadly: I met some of my closest friends through multiplayer games. Then a strange happening turned everyone (literally) speechless. 3 months ago:
Most multiplayer games now seem to focus on matchmaking and your performance, there’s not much focus on community anymore.
Everyone just plays for the highest score and doesn’t care about hanging out on a community run server every night with the same group of people.
- Comment on Experiencing weird rubberbanding and disconnects on lan connection. [Satisfactory] 5 months ago:
Most game servers are primarily single threaded, so you won’t see all 4 cores at 100%.
- Comment on Experiencing weird rubberbanding and disconnects on lan connection. [Satisfactory] 5 months ago:
That’s on the slower end, but I’ve run a satisfactory server on similar hardware before without too many issues.
Is the storage SSD based?
Do you have all 4 cores/threads allocated to the server?
- Comment on Experiencing weird rubberbanding and disconnects on lan connection. [Satisfactory] 5 months ago:
Do you know what CPU it is? Xeon with 4 threads can range from something so old it can barely run most modern software, to a fairly recent CPU that’s much faster.
- Comment on Experiencing weird rubberbanding and disconnects on lan connection. [Satisfactory] 5 months ago:
Generally tick length messages are purely due to CPU limitations.
What hardware is this running on?
- Comment on This means I close the tab, regardless of what is on the site. 5 months ago:
Librewolf (Firefox fork with better privacy) + uBlock Origin (comes pre-installed) + “AdGuard – Cookie Notices” filter enabled, plus any of the others you like.
Then bask in the internet without any annoyances, popups, or ads.
- Comment on TechSpot can't help but sellout in their own editor picks 5 months ago:
It’s crazy to me that all these websites advertise pirated/stolen Microsoft keys and aren’t getting in trouble for it.
- Comment on I had to install directx 9 to run gta 4 on windows 11 6 months ago:
It’s a very old game, from before DX12 existed.

I believe only the Pixel phones have the security hardware needed for Graphene.

Firefox with uBlock Origin also works nicely.
- Comment on This Google Photos popup 7 months ago:
Maybe, the average user really doesn’t understand backups though and would be more likely to ignore it then.
- Comment on This Google Photos popup 7 months ago:
I’m always conflicted on this kind of thing, because for every person annoyed that it’s asking there’s a bunch that are complaining that they lost all their photos because their phone was stolen or something like that, and had no idea that they need to backup their stuff.
- Comment on Meshtastic Coverage Mapping 7 months ago:
CalTopos Viewshed layer is also a handy tool, it’s purely viewshed so no RSSI calculations, but it’s great for figuring out where a good spot for an antenna would be.
- Comment on Is this just how it’s gonna be till Election Day? 8 months ago:
Yeah google messages has pretty good automatic spam detection, you can check the spam folder and see how many are in there.
- Comment on How does car insurance on multiple vehicles work (USA) 8 months ago:
Yeah you get fairly large discounts on extra vehicles, the logic being that you’re only driving one at a time and so collision and liability coverage costs only go up a little for each extra vehicle.
- Comment on I asked what your fave controllers are, now. What is the worst controller you have used? 8 months ago:
The ‘Steam Controller’ I think it was called? That thing was so awful I only used it like twice.
