- Comment on Centrelink mutual obligations: budget changes tipped to prevent 1m jobseeker suspensions a year 3 days ago:
Some tweaks to make the system slightly less shitty, but ideally they’d get rid of this punitive system altogether, particularly since it only benefits the parasitic private job providers.

- Comment on Federal Government announces a $100 million National Active Transport Fund 1 week ago:
On the plus side, a small amount of money can go a lot further compared to funding roads.
Anyway, good to see, and hopefully they get the details right and it isn’t just used to build a few paths and call it a day.
- Comment on Why do people still eat beef when we know it's terrible for Earth? 2 weeks ago:
Another issue is that most of us simply won’t be around to experience the consequences
I think most people middle-aged or younger will experience the consequences (in fact, we already are with the increased frequency of severe weather events) it’s just that those consequences will get worse over time.
- Comment on Nimbys v Yimbys: the affluent inner Melbourne suburbs that aren’t pulling their weight on housing 4 weeks ago:
Agreed 100%. At least in NSW they are starting to adjust zoning (up to 6 floor apartment buildings) near public transport, which should cover a decent amount of places. I’m hoping the changes also allow some level of mixed-use zoning as well, since it’s less livable to just have dense housing alone.
- Comment on Nimbys v Yimbys: the affluent inner Melbourne suburbs that aren’t pulling their weight on housing 4 weeks ago:
It’s not enough to just build high-density housing if you want families to live there. We need a lot more parks and recreational spaces factored into the infrastructure calculations.
Can’t argue with that. I’ll add that high density housing can mean a lot of different things, from duplexes/fourplexes and rowhouses to small apartment buildings to giant high rises. Some of these forms can easily accommodate a backyard or front yard (or both). Getting rid of parking minimums (or better yet, legislating parking maximums) would mean more land can be dedicated to green space.

- Comment on Arab and Muslim voters in Australia feel unheard by our major parties 5 weeks ago:
They are using Muslim as a people in this case and not a religion.
The alternate title may be clearer:
The major parties’ policies on Israel and Gaza seem wildly out of step with the views of voters they must win

I mean you shouldn’t let it exhaust because it makes your vote less powerful. Unless you genuinely think the Liberal party and Labor are exactly the same (which is insanity in my view). Also to be clear it’s still full preferential in the lower house. The upper house changed to require a certain minimum (I think it’s 6 off the top of my head) rather than the terrible party preference ATL. You can still do BTL if you can be bothered as well.

I’m considering Bomb Rush Cyberfunk but I reckon it has a decent chance of ending up in Humble Choice so I may wait for that. Definitely a game I will enjoy, but I have a big backlog so eh.

Probably the worst Prime Minister Australia has ever had, certainly in living memory. Competing with Tony Abbott, whose worst excesses at least were reined in by the Senate.
The world is just a little better without you in power Scotty. You won’t be missed.

- Comment on What is an average person living in the US supposed to do about corporations raising prices? 4 months ago:
Or get out the guillotines which soon get turned on your allies (and innocent poor people), then after that collapses get taken over by a fascist dictator, who undoes most of the progressive changes you made and rampages across Europe, killing millions of people (including French people).
- Comment on Does anyone wish they could go back to the beginning of schooling and re-live their education/school experience from the start? 4 months ago:
If I have my memories and knowledge it may help me make better decisions, but it would also be frustrating having to wait for societal changes. It was still a time where being called gay was an insult and racism was rife, and while that still happens, it’s much more likely to be called out.
Additionally, watching the world do nothing to stop climate change would be even harder to take knowing what is coming. Maybe I’d try to change that, but it would be like shouting into the void (as climate scientists can attest to).
- Comment on What happened to LineageOS? Has it been replaced by GrapheneOS? 5 months ago:
I can’t remember custom roms ever coming with the Google apps preinstalled, you’d always need to flash them separately before the first boot
Many of them do these days. Which is a bit annoying when you want a no-gapps variant and can’t find it.

- Comment on Does anyone feel like an actual adult? 5 months ago:
I see adulthood as a gradual undoing of the damage that the process of going through childhood and “growing up” does to us. Not necessarily from any specific trauma, but just that almost all of us will reach our 20s and beyond with quirks and mental health issues just by nature of a very complex and at times traumatic world. And an ideal adulthood is the ability to eventually move beyond merely coping but regaining some of the lost joy and innocence of childhood but with the increased responsibility of the self and others that comes with adulthood.

Are these still cut down releases based on last-gen console versions? That seems to be the historical trend with EA PC ports.
But even if not, that price is still high.
