- Comment on Are shops in the US usually this run down looking? 11 months ago:
That’s not run down, that’s a warehouse. Is it falling apart? Is the flooring worn? Are the walls cracking? Ceilings leaking? That’s what run down means, not whatever your weird complaint is about the decor and color scheme is.

You are why downvotes should be more common on Lemmy. You’re grossly misrepresenting the article and story.

- Comment on Roxann Dawson (B’Elanna) passed on directing new Star Trek but has returned to science fiction with Foundation 1 year ago:
Its kind of fucked either way. They’re too short but a lot happens because each book is broken into thirds that are separated by huge time gaps, and inside those thirds there are also time gaps. A movie, even a long one, would be incredibly disjointed and the pacing would feel bizarre.
I imagine it’s probably why nobody has made it a series or movie before even though it’s such a beloved sci Fi series. You’d have to take a lot of creative liberties with it, which is for better or worse, what they’re doing.
- Comment on Roxann Dawson (B’Elanna) passed on directing new Star Trek but has returned to science fiction with Foundation 1 year ago:
I’ve just started the show, and I feel like from the outset they made it clear that a LOT of the show is creative fiction to fill in the gaps. I feel like a lot of people forget just how short the original trilogy is. F, F&E and SF, collectively, are like an 8 hour read! I don’t love everything the show has done (and some of the acting is atrocious) but I love how they chose what boils down to allusions in the books and focused whole episodes on what that would’ve looked like in real time.
I also really like how they are not afraid to completely abandon cliff hangers for several episodes at a time, while still keeping you invested in what’s happening. Asimov dwas notorious for that and did it SEVERAL times on the trilogy. Oh you wanna know what happens? Well I’ll tell you eventually, but first, here’s forty pages introducing brand new characters on a completely different planet…300 years in the future. Bitch.
- Comment on Hollywood strikes to cost US economy $5 billion-plus amid lost wages, film delays 1 year ago:
Yes it is. What exactly is the strike costing the economy? Actors and writers opting to forego their own wages in the interest of the collectively not being robbed by the members of the 1% and the mega corporations they run are not stealing money from people. The only thing the strike is doing is lowering the profit margins and short term value of the companies that only got said value by hoarding the wealth generated from the IP and likenesses of the people on strike.

- Comment on When you get ad spammed by an adblocker..... 1 year ago:
Yes I used AdAway and AdGuard exclusively on my phone. I use ublock for everything on my desktop, and will until it stops being effective. I never see ads on desktop of any sort so it’s still chugging like a champ but to my knowledge they don’t make an OS level blocker for Android.
AdAway is available on f-droid, it’s not in the app store as far as I know.
- Comment on When you get ad spammed by an adblocker..... 1 year ago:
I do hate to say it but I haven’t found any software level ad blocker that was as good as AdGuard. I’ve been using AdAway and it does an okay job but only like 80% as effective if say. Most others I tried were shit.
- Comment on When you get ad spammed by an adblocker..... 1 year ago:
AdGuard was my ad blocker of choice on Android for years, but man did they fall off a cliff recently. I used them when you could purchase a forever license (which I don’t even think is an option anymore?), and it was great. All ads would be blocked basically everywhere, whenever they’d sneak through it just meant there was a filter that was out of date and needed to be updated.
Then about a year ago, the shenanigans started. Non-stop emails like OP is complaining about but also - their service BROKE whenever my phone would switch from data to wifi or vice versa. Like, any time it switched network types, just no internet would work at all. I’d have to force quit AdGuard and suddenly everything was fine. The timing happened when android updated from 12 to 13, so I figured it was something to do with that and emailed customer service. I got a notice that said something like “due to high ticket volume, it may be SEVERAL WEEKS before we get to your ticket or acknowledge it is being worked on, thank you for your patience.” So they’re spamming your inbox non-stop trying to click farm, but they have nobody actually working on the product. I never heard anything ever again (still haven’t…account is still active, email is still the same). I tried reaching out 3 or 4 more times but I’ve never received a response.
So…yeah fuck em I guess.

I have family that works in visual effects and have worked on a lot of reality shows. To say shoes are scripted is putting it ridiculously mildly. Entire episode runs are planned out, meticulously. Almost nothing is left to chance/genuine.
- Comment on Where to watch NFL games this season (US) 1 year ago:
RedZone is my preferred way to watch. Some people find it too jarring and die hards want to watch only their team but to me having the entire day with no commercial breaks is an absolute game changer.
For out of market games though, your options are Sunday ticket or streams. I use sportsurge (.net or .io are both good) if there’s a game I want that isn’t one of the prime time games.

Been there. Happened to me in grad school but I woke up to a bat on my leg. Thing with bats ks you can’t tell if they bit you because their teeth leave little baby pinpricks that look like damn near everything else that bites, including mosquitoes.
I got a bill for $13,000. Basically 1000 for every shot to the ass they gave me. I had to pay it from my student loans. Yay America.

Not kidding, this could be the tl;dr. Not saying there’s anything wrong with that, but don’t expect any revolutionary takes/ideas in there.
