- Comment on Path of Exile 2's disastrous new update reveals the core tension at the heart of its design: How do you make a game with meaningful combat when everyone just wants to blast monsters? 1 week ago:
The maps in act 2 and 3 already felt too long and repetitive, if normal mobs just take longer to clear that’s a big turnoff to an already underwhelming experience.
- Comment on 6* months away now. If you're on 10, do you plan to upgrade? Make the jump to Linux? 1 week ago:
I use Linux exclusively but I don’t think it’s relevant to the discussion.
I would rather use windows 11 than any other EOL version of windows. I loved windows XP when it came out, wouldn’t dare to use it today.

It might be a remote exploit or it might not. An OS is not just a program that runs in the background, if it is critically important.
These kind of exploiters don’t tend to attack you in particular, they have botnets scanning the web for any compromised machine.
Running windows 10 is fine today, might not be fine after EOL. It is irresponsible to shrug it off and not even consider the alternatives out there, including windows 11.

The desktop environment is called KDE Plasma. Every distribution with KDE will look and feel very similar.
Fedora is a good and safe bet for a distribution.

The problem is that as soon as a security issue is found on windows 10 it won’t be fixed, it is perpetual. In Windows 11 it will probably be fixed before you even know it exists.
- Comment on The Switch 2 Rollout Was So Convoluted It Made Us Want A Steam Deck. 2 weeks ago:
I can understand the console being more expensive, especially since we don’t really know its specs yet (or at least I don’t). Why is Mario Kart 30 euros more expensive, tho? It doesn’t paint a good picture.
- Comment on The Switch 2 Rollout Was So Convoluted It Made Us Want A Steam Deck. 2 weeks ago:
It’s not just the console prices that have gone up. Console is, 470 euros, Mario Kart is 90 euros, Pro Controller 2 is 90 euros, the SD card is 60 euros, a webcam is 60 euros…
Meanwhile, their competition is getting cheaper every day.

It’s out in the nintendo stores and general retailers are already accepting preorders at the same price. It’s real.
- Comment on The Switch 2 Rollout Was So Convoluted It Made Us Want A Steam Deck. 2 weeks ago:
When the Switch 1 release there was nothing else on the market like it. Play handheld on the bus, get home, dock it, continue playing in full HD. That is amazing. I didn’t get the Switch 1 because of the exclusives, it was the versatility that got me.
- Comment on The Switch 2 Rollout Was So Convoluted It Made Us Want A Steam Deck. 2 weeks ago:
Similar form factor, similar price, similar use case. The big difference is that one plays Nintendo games and another plays PC games.
I own a steam deck, therefore the appeal of a switch 2 is their exclusive games. I don’t need both, they scratch the same itch.

In order to get good recommendations you’re going to need to provide additional information. How many people are playing? How complex can a game be? What games have you tried and loved? Is there a favorite mechanism? What is the game duration you’re going for? 10 min? 30? 3 hours?
Generic recommendations based on my library:
-
Just One - Favorite party game
-
Brass Birmingham - My favorite; Beware it’s quite complex and lasts around 3 hours
-
Blood Rage - Cool dude’s on a map game with very nice minis
-
Turing Machine - Good puzzle game
-
Slay The Spire - If you love slay the spire, you’ll love cooperative slay the spire as well
-
Menara - Favorite dexterity game

- Comment on SteamOS expands beyond Steam Deck 3 months ago:
Unfortunately this is one of the cases where you’re going to have to do some research.
Check ProtonDB to see how a game plays on Linux. I’m assuming the flight simulator would be problematic.
Usually the periferal drivers are built into the Linux kernel. Your keyboard and mice will just work, gamepads as well. Niche stuff like wheels and flight controllers will likely not work out of the box and you’ll have to find a community based software to support it. Sucks.
If I were you I’d boot a virtual machine or a live USB drive and try it out. If you’re not comfortable with the amount of compatibility just don’t install it. Nothing lost
- Comment on SteamOS expands beyond Steam Deck 3 months ago:
If you have the exact hardware supported by the SteamOS then you’ll be fine. However, I don’t even know of they support nvidia video cards yet, I believe most of their stack is optimized for AMD cards.
In that sense, installing a more generalist linux distribution will net you a better driver compatibility.
Linux gaming is at a fantastic state right now, you install steam and games work. 20 years ago I would have never believed it to be possible.
- Comment on SteamOS expands beyond Steam Deck 3 months ago:
Trying from a USB or virtual machine is just a good idea in general. Use Ventoy to put several distros into a single USB stick and try them out. Try your hardware, check which UI you like the most.
- Comment on SteamOS expands beyond Steam Deck 3 months ago:
If you are tech savvy enough to install Windows, you can easily install Linux as well. If you install any of the big distros you will have a good time.
- Comment on SteamOS expands beyond Steam Deck 3 months ago:
Linux supporting kernel level anti-cheats is an amazing feature, in my honest opinion.
- Comment on SteamOS expands beyond Steam Deck 3 months ago:
It’s not going to happen in this iteration of SteamOS. It remains mostly a gaming “only” distribution.
- Comment on Football Manager 25 delayed til March 2025 6 months ago:
Very disappointing. They delayed the game for a few weeks and then for 5 months. How did anyone think the November date could be achieved?
Guess I’ll look for a community updated database for this year.
- Comment on Grasshopper CEO Suda51 says people ‘care too much’ about Metacritic scores 6 months ago:
Well if I only have time to play a game a month, I’m not gonna play a 6/10 game. I’m not saying to blindly trust metacritic but when you seldom play games you need to filter them aggressively somehow.

But 5 bucks discount is nothing, you can get so much better in other venues.

In Portugal we have a couple of these stores but I really don’t understand how they stay alive. I went there once with a sealed 60 euro, recent, game for a console I didn’t down. They offered me 15 euros and were selling used copies for 55 euros. Why on earth would I buy or sell for those prices?

The main problem is the amount of REALLY bad games. It’s very hard to find decent games, most of them are intentionally unplayable garbage.
