- Comment on Is the Robert Reich mastodon account actually run by Robert Reich? 6 days ago:
His linktr.ee from his official website links to that account. So it’s official.
I think the question is: is it actually him using the account, or is it a social media manager?
- Comment on Where do you find new games nowadays? (Both singleplayer + multiplayer) 3 months ago:
One of my main tools has been SteamDB’s instant search - it’s basically a giant list of all steam games, sorted by review score, with a TON of different filters you can apply. Looking specifically for something released this year? You can filter for it. Looking specifically for a co-op action shooter, or a singleplayer 2d platformer? You can filter for those too. Wanting to exclude early access games or exclude games with a min/max number of reviews? You can do that too. Very handy tool

Looks like Lemmy.world has the entire instance blocked: lemmy.world/instances
Was wondering why I hadn’t heard of this bot before…

Both Bitwarden and KeePass are very secure, certainly much better than something like Lastpass…
Bitwarden’s server and client are open source and completely E2EE (similar to Signal, the server is zero-knowledge). And even if you don’t trust Bitwarden’s official server, you can host your own.
KeePass is fine too, but it doesn’t have a centralized server like Bitwarden. You have to use other tools to sync your vault between devices. Which some people prefer, but others dislike. Just depends on your preference.

- Comment on What are the best indie games you've ever played? 8 months ago:
I think the Deep Rock developers are owned by Embracer now, so I’m not sure if that counts as “indie” anymore, even if they’re still a small (and previously somewhat home-grown) studio. But it’s still a damn good game - ROCK AND STONE

- Valve, when they actually make games… and when those games aren’t Artifact or Dota Underlords…
- id Software
- Telltale Games
- Frictional Games (Amnesia, SOMA)
- Red Barrels (Outlast)
- Playdead (INSIDE, LIMBO)
- Landfall (Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, ROUNDS, Clustertruck, Totally Accurate Battlegrounds, etc)
- Daniel Mullins (Inscryption, Pony Island, The Hex)
- David Szymanski (DUSK, Chop Goblins)
- Mason Lindroth (Hylics)
- Obsidian’s older stuff
- Rocksteady’s older stuff
- I have a love/hate relationship with FromSoft
- Honorable mention to Nightdive: They do fantastic modern remasters of older games, like Quake 1 and 2, System Shock 2, Blood: Fresh Supply, etc.

- Comment on Saints Row – free to keep today on Epic Games Store 10 months ago:
I strongly dislike Epic as a company, but at least Heroic Games Launcher makes the experience tolerable. And free is free, but for anything paid, I’m always willing to pay extra to own on Steam/GOG instead

For Deck, you’ll likely be using EmuDeck for your emulation setup, which will install PCSX2 for PS2 games.
You can see the other available EmuDeck emulators here: emudeck.github.io/…/steamos/#what-does-emudeck-in…

On the Playstation side, RPCS3 is the PS3 emulator, it’s great. There are some experimental PS4 emulators, but they aren’t ready yet.
On the Xbox side, Xenia works well as an Xbox 360 emulator; it’s not linux native though, but it might work well under wine. I’m not aware of Xbox One (or later) emulators.
On the Nintendo side, I would be surprised if a Nintendo game that couldn’t be emulated exists. Even Switch games run very well on day 1 of release.

I think from the perspective of the employee’s reputation, it’s an important distinction, due to the “with cause” vs. “without cause” implication.
When I hear “laid off” I think the person was probably a fine employee who they just couldn’t keep around because higher-ups wanted more money. But when I hear “fired” I think “well did they take a shit on their boss’s desk or something?”

We’re up to 12 linux users banned in the past ~day
- Comment on Apex Legends is, yet again, falsely banning linux players 1 year ago:
Apex is listed as Steam Deck Verified. Since Steam Deck and desktop linux use the same compatibility tool, Proton, that means both should be supported.
Additionally, the last time this happened, Apex unbanned all of the desktop linux users, which is at least a soft-confirmation that it’s supported.

- Comment on Don't you find it disappointing that people apply Herd Mentality for upvoting top comments, even if it's not the best one out there? 1 year ago:
Thankfully Lemmy somewhat negates this with their ranking algorithm. “Hot” is the default for comments and “active” is the default for posts, which according to the Lemmy docs, both “Counterbalance the snowballing effect of votes over time with a logarithmic scale.”
Basically, if a newer comments gets some upvotes, but still has fewer upvotes than older comments, that new comment will still be shown near the top at first. Then after some time passes, the algorithm slowly shifts to sorting more by “raw” number of votes instead of taking time into account.
