My guess is labor themselves would rather the electorate swung to liberal than a variety of independents / minors.
My hope is that more independents and minors get in. The majors only seem to look after the 1% when it comes to economic policy.
- Comment on The Coalition will block the student caps bill. Brace yourself for more uncertainty over international students 4 weeks ago:
As if the Liberals are actually going to reduce immigration though. Their policy has been mass immigration to please the owner class since John Howard.

- Comment on Why aren't vegan? 1 month ago:
Truth be told I don’t find hunting upsetting. It’s the way of nature. Hunted wild venison and pork is some of the most delicious meat I’ve eaten. Probably goes without saying but deer and pigs are introduced pests which damage the environment and threaten diversity in Australia and New Zealand, so I have no qualms about hunting them.
Factory farms yeah they can be a bit crap which is why I tend to look for free range meat and eggs.
I’m not opposed to eating plant based meals, I do it probably two dinners a week at present. However overdoing legumes which seem to be pretty popular in plant based meals tends to create a lot of greenhouse gas in the vicinity of my arse.
- Comment on Stamp duty 'a bad tax' that distorts the market, housing minister says, welcoming shift to land tax 1 month ago:
This might be the first time I’ve ever agreed with something three business council has lobbied for.
IIRC a land tax instead instead of stamp duty per transaction was a recommendation from they Henry tax review.

- Comment on It's wrong to say Australia hasn't had an immigration strategy for decades — we're living with its consequences 2 months ago:
Howard was very calculating in what he did.
He made a big fuss in the media about a tiny handful of asylum seekers arriving by boat. All the while ramping up legal immigration avenues.
He knew this was good for his business owner lobbyist mates and good for increasing demand on real estate. Bad for anyone who works for a living and did not already own a house.

Be very surprised if labor changes direction before the election.
As much as I would like to see negative gearing limited to new builds only and capital gains tax discounts removed entirely.
- Comment on Carbon emissions limits for cars weakened amid opposition's 'ute tax' campaign 8 months ago:
Straight from the fuckwits page here: …gov.au/…/joint-media-release-new-vehicle-efficie…
Recategorising a limited number of 4WDs from passenger car to light commercial vehicle. This acknowledges that some off-road wagons use similar ladder-frame chassis, and need comparable towing capacity above 3 tonnes, to dual cab utes. This includes models such as the Toyota Landcruiser and Nissan Patrol;
Land cruiser and patrol? Oh fuck off. They are primarily used as soccer mum taxis in urban areas.
Apparently Bowen’s job title shouldn’t be taken as first thought. The “Minister for Climate Change and Energy” actually means the minister for causing further climate change rather than preventing it.

- Comment on Australia's ageing population set to challenge reliance on workers' wages 10 months ago:
We tax income — wages — massively. Wealth and assets? Lightly.
Ironic given the LNP’s comments about lifters and learners. If you are sitting back leaning with wealth, you pay fuck all tax. If you (lift) work for a living you pay through the nose.
All the hot air about stage 3 tax cuts would have been better saved for a debate on negative gearing, capital gains tax discounts and broad based land taxes. Can’t shift land offshore to dodge tax.

I very much doubt the fediverse is in anyway representative of mainstream Australia.
Yes the road toll from emissions is thought to be higher than from crashes. …edu.au/…/Expert-Position-Statement_Vehicle-emiss…
Not sure if that message resonates with the average land cruiser driver though.

They certainly need to be banned from urban areas.
On the list of things i don’t want within a few km of my kids, diesel fumes are next on the list after pedos and just above organised religion.

The problem is not that there isn’t solutions, it’s that there is zero political appetite to implement them.

- Comment on Do you use the swipe to type feature on your phone? 1 year ago:
I think so. I tried to install a few different versions and got errors saying it wasn’t able to be installed. Assume Swype was a 32 bit app, which you can’t install on pixel 7 without doing away with the stock Android.
- Comment on Do you use the swipe to type feature on your phone? 1 year ago:
Yes since when ever Swype was released.
When I got a pixel 7 pro, I was very sad to find out Swype dragon had been discontinued. The APK are still around, but I’m not sure I’m ready to root and or put a custom OS my pixel yet to get it installed.
I’ve been going back and forward between gboard and swift key. Both are orders of magnitude worse than Swype was at recognising traces for longer words. Blows my mind how Google and Microsoft still can’t build something as good as decade old Swype.
