You’re not an exempt (salaried) employee if they deduct your pay for working less in a given week. I’ve never had an employer who cared about hours as long as work got done.

I’m just guessing, but I assume that after a certain point, what you’re trying to draw is so niche and/or new that no one’s bothered to make decent software for it. Like, you can do a Feynman diagram quickly on a chalk board, or spend 3x as long dragging lines in Visio or something to make a diagram diagram.
Even with CAD existing, I still always sketch initial project ideas out on paper just cause it’s fast and easy.

The Forest is a good multiplayer survival crafting game, with a pretty cool story. The sequel is also already out I think.

I live in DFW right now. I’ll admit i don’t commute through downtown proper daily, but even when i do go through downtown after work it’s bad, but not nearly as bad as plenty of other places in thr US.

15-45 minutes… I’m not exactly knowledgeable about pizza delivery logistics, so forgive me if I’m wrong about specifics. There was a decade or so where every chain promised delivery in 30 minutes or the pizza was free, but that’s no longer a guarantee these days.

Pizza delivery has electronically heated insulated containers for the drivers to keep the pizza in during the drive. Generally I think they group up orders so one delivery driver will hit up maybe 10-20 deliveries in that one run. It’s normally not driving 20 miles just to deliver one pizza.

Our cities aren’t densely built up, except for New York. The actual urban area of most cities generally has far fewer people than the suburban metroplex surrounding it. 6.5km is literally larger than all of downtown Dallas, depending on how you define downtown.
Even our cities are designed for car travel, so unless it’s rush hour you’re still faster by car. Unless there’s a concert or other event happening, it doesn’t take nearly 20 minutes to traverse downtown Dallas in a car.

Are you in the US? I’ve literally never seen a delivery driver on a bike, except for that action movie about bike couriers in NYC.
- Comment on Photographers Push Back on Facebook's 'Made with AI' Labels Triggered by Adobe Metadata. Do you agree “‘AI was used in this image’ is completely different than ‘Made with AI’”? 5 months ago:
The biggest use of AI in my editing flow is masking. I can spend half an hour selecting all the edges of a person as well as I can, or I can click the button to select people. Either way I do the rest of my edits as normal.

I’ll say that if the really talented people are signing on to this, that could be noticeable. I know Amazon tends to just churn through devs every year, but actually good software engineers are surprisingly hard to find.

My company was more flexible, but is getting less and less flexible over time. This correspondingly means I’m not going to be working late during crunches, by my own decision, since it’s not like they’re paying me for the extra time, or letting me take off a few hours here and there to make up for it the rest of the year.
- Comment on Why do Americans measure everything in cups? 8 months ago:
Unironically, I do in fact do this all the time. I make large batches when I bake, so it’s easier to just tare and measure everything directly in the stand mixer bowl instead of scooping 16 cups. It’s also less clean up afterwards!

A lot of people here have the right idea, but are just more pessimistic than me about the industrial capabilities of our civilization if we survive long enough to achieve them. Star lifting is an idea with what I understand to be reasonably sound scientific principles. It’s just a matter of scaling our industry over the next millions or billions of years.
I like this channel because he’s a fairly optimistic but very reality based futurist. He’ll tell you straight up if something is unlikely or impossible based on our current understanding of science, but he’s one of the few sources I’ve seen that acknowledges the immense scale that even an Earth or solar system bound civilization is capable of supporting with just modern technology.

I don’t think there’s any technical reason we can’t count in base pi

He’s not perfect, and your examples show why these sorts of decisions on spending and priority shouldn’t be in the hands of a single person who isn’t even an expert in diseases.
It’s still worth acknowledging that he did plenty to help with polio and malaria, even if it could’ve been done better by another method.

Bill Gates has done significant good fighting disease. Still something that should’ve been decided by society, not a single person, but credit where credit is due.
Unfortunately anti vaxxers have destroyed a lot of that legacy anyway.
