I think in this case it’s more about them repeating your name. Feels fake.
In general I don’t use titles but at work I usually call men sir when they’re 50+ and I’ve never seen someone get bothered by it. It feels weird to go up to a stranger and say “Hi Brian, I heard you’re having chest pain today and I have some questions for you” or whatever. They don’t react negatively and seem to feel more respected. I don’t call women “m’am” because I know that can be irritating.
I think doctor only makes sense when you’re in a role at work. If you’re a visitor at a salon, don’t insist on it. If my boyfriend is booking a plane ticket he shouldn’t add Dr., but if he’s at a conference for fellow PhDs they should. If I’m at work they better call me doctor and not Miss or by my first name or I’ll be big mad - Comment on Is it weird that I cringe whenever someone calls my name and I avoid using peoples names when talking to them? 8 hours ago:
It’s not an unreasonable gripe and autism isn’t an insult.
Some people use your name too much and it does feel weird, like they’re trying to use their self-help book advice on you. “Good luck navigating life” is a nasty thing to say. Don’t be a dick - Comment on Dunno where else to post a gripe 16 hours ago:
Omg if I were you I’d be talking everyone’s ear off about this, that’s wild

Love that but I don’t think it works anymore. It definitely used to and I’d say the goofiest things

I told my friend about it and he reacted poorly because he thought I was being transphobic. I have absolutely no beef with people choosing what they want to be called.
My issue was that they were making accessing necessary healthcare more difficult and virtue signaling via recorded message by saying they care about our pronouns.
I would have thought my friend I’ve known for a year would know I was trying to make a more nuanced point about capitalism and enshittification and I wasn’t saying that trans people should be disregarded. Actually quite painful to see that he saw me complaining and heard trans and went straight to bigotry. - Comment on Dunno where else to post a gripe 17 hours ago:
I gave it pronouns that haven’t been invented yet

I tried to get a person by saying PERSON REPRESENTATIVE and then all the curse words because in the past that made them get you a person sooner but nah. I’m sure I sounded insane and if the recording ever comes out I’ll have a really hard time arguing that I’m not actually homicidal. Oops

Ty. We need to build up these communities so there’s some actual discussion going on. I just joined this site and we need to pump it up imo, when communities barely have posts it’s hard to get anything going
