Alcohol and cigarettes make miracles in light mental health issues. Can’t cure schizophrenia though, alas.
- Comment on What if the USA decided to use another language as its *de facto* national language at it's founding? How would it affect the world? 14 hours ago:
Nothing much. Bad timing. USA is loosing its position as an engineering/scientific center. Hollywood is unimportant in the sense of language spread. English is the current lingua franca, not American language.

The ability to prepare the code that aligns the rules is a technical merit. If you are talking about Riser, Shishkin or forgot his name, whose FS was thrown away from the kernel recently. Those guys lived in their own worlds with them in the center :)
- Comment on What do you think is the opposite of Kiwifarms? 1 day ago:
It existed. It was just a different concept of “peaceful”. It wasn’t peaceful by current “politcorrect” expectations. It was “show the code or go fuck yourself”. It was based on merits and expertise, not by loudness. Modern Internet is a much more aggressive and repulsive place even if people can’t say “fuck” or “lick the outlet” anymore.

We had this kind of Internet 20-30 years ago. It was nice. But then humanitarians came, then kids came, corporations… But 30 years ago the Internet was a beautiful place where engineers and geeks lived in harmony.

LLMs are good for searching in technical documentation. And that’s it. They are barely usable outside this niche.
Stop using it for “humanitarian” purposes. It can’t be a psychologist, lawyer or anything else similar.

it’s a waste of time to argue with you
You’re correct. I believe at this moment I have heard the full specter of anti-LLM arguments and most of the are pathetic; and those few that are somewhat reasonable are not actually anti-LLM but against consumer practices (ragarding as companies who try to shovel-in LLMs to anything without any reason, and end-consumers as well, who use LLMs for the purposes it never was made for and where it is still completely ineffective)

Hysterical hatred? Not sure. Personal computers were welcomed, cars and planes too (planes were laughed upon, but never hated as far as I know)… Nah, I don’t think that every significant new technology is hated at the start.

“The way it is” is based on a huge statistics material. Claiming some future results without huge statistics material is called “prediction”.
The guy is just PRing on the anti-AI sentiment.

Ok.

Formally? No, they didn’t need the Internet. De facto – you weren’t able to actively use it without the Internet.

- Comment on Microsoft kills official way to activate windows without internet 3 weeks ago:
20 years ago internet was the main pro-Windows argument, actually. Windows was completely comfortable without the internet, while Linux was barely usable offline without access to online repositories and forums to keep the system working.
- Comment on Microsoft kills official way to activate windows without internet 3 weeks ago:
That might be a win-win situation, actually. Imagine they all come to Linux and here the great battle will begin – between crazy vimers who remember crazy commands and newcomer crazy Win-admins who keep a bunch of register(reestr? What was its name? Win system config with stupid key names like “ADDA-4534-FA45-4532” ) keys in their EULA-heads.
I hope both sides will lose :) - Comment on I get around 3 weeks ago:
