He hired good attorneys who wrote advantageous contracts ... so whenever a venture wasn't profitable, the lenders or investors often wound up taking much of the loss, especially those ventures that went into Chapter 11 bankruptcy. But if there had been any hint of fraud, he was in New York, which has the best state enforcement agencies in the country. They would have burned him at the stake in 2015-2016 when he was running for office and proclaiming "I will beat Hillary".
If he beat the bankers at their own game, good for him. They should be glad he didn't call for people to hang the bankers, because most of the country would have participated.
