- Comment on The Victorian Greens are taking a page from Mamdani’s policy playbook. Can they combat rising rightwing populism? 1 week ago:
I can only assume this headline is trying to get attention - even international engagement. Rather than hanging the potential policy on a foreign name,…
The headline is purely a product of the article’s author and/or Guardian editorial staff. Most of the article isn’t even about the Greens investment property tax, it’s about worldwide politics.
The Greens have an alphabetically sorted list for all their policies at https://greens.org.au/vic/policies - the described plan seems to be a more specific Victorian version of part of their Finance and Public Administration Policy - "3. Replace stamp duties with land value tax. "
- Comment on One Nation branch official defended Hitler Youth and called Aboriginal people ‘stone age’ in racist posts 3 weeks ago:
According to Australian Electoral Commission records, Drew ran for One Nation for the seat of Ryan in 2001 but claimed in a 2007 Zoo Weekly article that profiled “Nazis in Australia” that he had been dumped for being too radical.
I don’t know how to find words for all of this. Dropped by One Nation for being too racist but now he’s back? And what slow news month was it in 2007 that they had to scrape the bottom of the barrel for a “Nazis of Australia” profile article?

One of the most depressing things about COVID was learning how selfish most Australians are. Forget everything we like to pretend about community spirit and mateship and all that. People were acting like having a bit of fabric over their mouth was oppression, and taking a month off going to the pub was apparently unbearable.

Nah, don’t waste it. Anyone caught hoarding fuel should get demerit points.
- Comment on PM announces new fuel supply taskforce as price-gouging investigation launched 3 months ago:
More broadly, “the only reason this is still an issue” is we have been dragging our feet on electrification in general. We have known for decades that gas and oil are finite and cause pollution but it’s always someone else’s problem until the prices inevitably go up.

This seems to be a component of a larger system called “Rootable” and would be better to link directly to that.
