Exactly. There are also hundreds of useful applications more than just consumer facing that you may be aware of. For example, I do research for climate models and we’re using diffusion models to make the data assimilation step more accurate, so there’s all kinds of things other than just making funny pictures or songs or whatever.

It was never meant to be used in this way at this scale though. He put out a new method/paradigm and that was that. It was the asshole investor tech bros that destroyed the planet once they learned of it.
Just like anything, almost no tech or thing is inherently bad, but it becomes bad when the ruling class get their greedy grimy little grimy in it.

Think about what kind of politics these boys will have when they grow up though… It’s going to be even more authoritarian, anti-woman, etc.

These are actual teenage boys now though. Gen Alpha is so fucked.

lol that day is coming sooner than you’d think, I think 10 years is being generous tbh
You should learn a highly niche specialization within SWE if you don’t already have one (that’s what I have). That will be overtaken by AI too, but it’ll give you more runway at least.

Just making the distinction that both blue and white collar workers are all still the working class generally. Colloquially, “working class” can be used more to mean blue collar workers, but in my context I mean anyone not in the capital ownership class.
- Comment on Ubisoft Closes Canadian Studio After It Unionizes 3 weeks ago:
Yes in reality, like 90% of people are working class, but I just wanted to make that designation for anyone reading it and going “software engineers aren’t working class”. I mean it in the more general working class vs capital owners.
- Comment on Ubisoft Closes Canadian Studio After It Unionizes 3 weeks ago:
Capital would rather burn everything down than lose a penny to the working class. Yes in this example, highly paid developers are considered working class relative to billionaire owners

Have a bunch of family staying over at my house for Thanksgiving, and literally doing this now. Though instead of smoking outside, I’m “working in my office” (I’m actually working somewhat)

The scientific journal industrial complex is one of the highest profit margins in the world. It’s consistently at like 30-60% pure profit. Obviously not all journals are the same, some are reasonable, but some are insane. LOOKING AT YOU ELSEVIER

If you invest a lot in to learning as much as possible when younger, then by like late 20s you can get a decent sense of things. But even then it’s a tiny percentage of everything.

No it’s not. It may not be AI but it’s not a real location. Look at the clouds. Look at the actual shape of it, where the “head” matches a little too closely. Natural shores wouldn’t form like that. The tree line is really fake. Look at any one point closer than just a glance and it doesn’t really make sense geographically when you think about it.
It’s kind of crazy/sad you can’t tell.
