I saw that gameplay clip you shared and it’s parry city over there, heh. Looks complex! I undersand where you are coming from, but, you are a seasoned gamer, I’m certain you have what it takes for Sekiro.
Still, I’ll try my best to provide some “good” commentary ;). Have a nice week!

Oh! Very creative… it always surprises me the kind of stuff people will make into a sim game!
TLDR: It’s gooood! It took some adjusting, ngl. Letting go of the muscle memory of the trad. soulslike formula. But I’m having a good time. Steeper learning curve, but not as hard as it’s reputation makes it out to be.
Tangent
I got sorta stuck in a no combat part of the game, trying to reach a new area, lost patience and got distracted with DS3, (but that save got corrupted over the weekend . RIP ಥ_ಥ) so I’m back to Sekiro
I was scared of it for the longest time but after playing Lies of P I lost my fear of parrying and decided to just go for it. Parrying is the easy part, actually.
What’s challenging is you have to learn how to properly answer the enemy’s moves, and have to be desicive enough to build the stance damage. So, no fucking around, Hesitation IS defeat, yeah… damn right!
It is 100% a rhythm game and the way to approach it is rigid, but it also feels fair and very doable, at least up to this point. I haven’t encountered any fuckery yet. It’s still very early in the game so… Who knows.
Skill wise I’m nothing to write home about, so I feel that if I can do it, probably most can. I do attribute all my soulslike success to me being somewhat rythmically inclined, tho. So experiences may vary…( I also have never measured myself against a ““real”” rhythm game, those seem hard af, my hunch is that I probably woudn’t be that good. )
Game does guilt trip you about dying a lot. XD
Tap for spoiler
But aparently turns out it’s not the end of the world

Hi, I’m playing Sekiro. I’m still early in the game, but combat is clicking! kicked Genichiro’s ass and it felt so good.

You don’t need mods out of the gate, you can level up as much as you need to. Have a go at it as is, explore . Don’t rush to the mounted enemy in golden armour you’ll see right when you first step out into the world. Have fun and join us at !soulslike@lemmy.zip

Alan Wake II is so incredibliy beautiful and cinematic, the art direction is superb. Later in the game there are some crazy sequences you are gonna love for screenshots! (Honestly, a lot othe game is like poster material)
The character movent makes me dizzy as hell though, so I’m having trouble finishing it. ;( but I’ll persevere!

XD perhaps, I do feel like the interactive nature of videogames changes things a bit, and I didn’t try gaming until I was a (young) adult, so idk how I would have handled it as a kid.
I did have completely unrestricted access to media from like 12 yrs old on, and blood and gore never really fazed me much in fiction.
Maybe the gained experience from life is what makes those things (violence, catastrophe, etc) more realistic and thus horrific.

I don’t know that series but, my introduction to gaming was when the zombie genre was all the rage, and, I was aaaaall over that shit. I loved it in it’s gory, disgusting and apocalyptic glory.
A few years after that, (like 7 years aprox) I attempted to replay some of those titles and holy shit the nightmares it induced me were unreal. I finished one of the playthroughs but I realized that I was just no longer equipped to handle it, and it’s ok. I remember those times fondly but theres no need to put myself through that level of mental anguish; I’ve since found other things to love.
You can give it a try and see how you react to it, that was just my experience.

(I think you were trying to reply to me)
Yeah there’s probably something out there for everyone, the world of vidoegames is incredibly vast.
While some people vibe with many things others gravitate only to a niche. I lucked out on finding something I love, even though I played my first videogame already as an adult, but I was always curious about them so there’s that. I had the curiosity, and through friends the chance to try things out without really commiting at first.

For video games I was a casual until I found a genre that clicked for me, and kept me wanting to go back to that world and gameplay formula. what keeps someone coming back will vary person to person, but for me in short it was a combination of the story, art direction and gameplay mechanics.
Before that I could get really invested in a game, but jumping to a similar one would easily burn me out. Finding your thing can take a lot of trial and error, and like you said for some people is just not worth the time / money investment.

Hopefully they didn’t, as it just would be inacurate data. But yeah I think whomever made the graph just put top image search result and nobody in the publication cared enough to check… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
