- Comment on With 5,700 Movie Screens Shut Down and the Box Office in a Slump, Theaters Are Still Waiting for a Post-Pandemic Comeback 4 days ago:
Our city added a B&B theater and I’d probably go to it if they offered a subscription service that competed with AMC’s A List. I love that they have stuff like pickleball and arcade games. I remember the AMC I used to go to had arcade games, pinball, air hockey, and I think even a pool table somewhere. I still go to that AMC nearly twenty years later and they have maybe a few claw machines and the theater is much more run down than it used to be overall.
I think at some point, it may just become untenable for these giant 10-25 screen multiplexes to continue and the theater industry will revert back to smaller 1-5 screen theaters with bars and/or additional entertainment in the front area.
- Comment on Warner Bros Negotiating Big Sale Of Shelved ‘Coyote Vs. Acme’ Movie: The Dish 1 week ago:
I don’t think it’s been confirmed whether they’ve actually written this one off yet or not. There were reports that they had written off somewhere around $115m for scrapped projects last year, but there were no confirmations around which projects specifically were written off.
I’m not an expert in these matters at all, but if they had written it off, wouldn’t they have had to destroy the materials?

Man, I hope this is good. The action sequences they put in the previews at least look pretty cool. I suspect it’s not gonna be good though.
- Comment on "Save the Bees, Murder the Wasps" 1 week ago:
Some species of flies and mosquitoes are also pollinators. One cute example of pollinating flies are the Bombyliidae. Mosquito larvae are also important food sources for aquatic and semi-aquatic species like frogs and fish.

Haha there’s a reason why the Xenomorph from Alien is in part inspired by parasitic wasps.
- Comment on "Save the Bees, Murder the Wasps" 1 week ago:
If you study wasps, you’ll find that they very frequently have odd symbioses from species to species, most often as parasites or hyperparasites. Some even have symbiotic relationships with viruses that assist them in their parasitism - ichneumon and braconid wasps have symbiotic viruses called polydnaviruses.
- Comment on "Save the Bees, Murder the Wasps" 2 weeks ago:
If you wanna learn about some more wasp pollination, look up fig wasps (Agaonidae). Wasps are legitimately one of the coolest groups of animals.
- Comment on Official Discussion - Mickey 17 [SPOILERS] 2 weeks ago:
Just saw it. I thought it was good, but definitely stretched too thin in some ways. It was like they were trying to fit as much from the book as possible but the runtime was too short for that. Overall still good and worth a watch IMO.

In the past week I’ve seen:
Ne Zha
The Rule of Jenny Pen (theater)
Ne Zha was decent. Really fun action sequences and great visuals in the action sequences. Some of the humor didn’t land, likely because it’s a kids movie and maybe because I’m American and Chinese humor just doesn’t land as well for me.
The Rule of Jenny Pen was certainly something. Its basically John Lithgow physically and mentally abusing elderly people with a puppet. I’d recommend watching it. Lithgow does a great job playing an absolutely unhinged psychopath.
- Comment on Osgood Perkins Will Never Direct a James Bond Film: 'F**k Jeff Bezos' 3 weeks ago:
He’d probably never get the opportunity in the first place. It would be cool to see what he could do with an action movie though if he ever gets bored of doing horror.
- Comment on Which movie do you feel has the most wasted potential? 3 weeks ago:
Recent one for me is Love Hurts.
Had a few things going right for it. The early fight scene between Ke Huy Quan and Marshawn Lynch’s characters was really fun and cool. You could see the bones of a really fun John Wick clone but with a bit of an 70’s/80’s kung fu twist to it. But then they completely ruin it with the love interest plot and the boring bad guy and boring later fights. Take that early part of the movie, expand in it, and drop the love interest crap, and it might have been pretty good.
- Comment on Does it make sense to buy a lifetime supply of honey? 3 weeks ago:
Honey can technically expire. If it crystalizes, some portions of it can become more diluted, leading to a low enough osmotic pressure for bacteria and fungi to exist. If you do buy in bulk, check your local universities. One iny area does honeybee research and sells bulk honey from their bee lab at cheaper prices than any of the private beekeepers. I use it to make mead with.

Since my comment on the previous post, I’ve seen:
The Goonies (rewatch)
Pineapple Express (rewatch)
Nickel Boys (theater)
Flow (theater)
Speed
The Other Guys (rewatch)
Universal Soldier
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Did a double feature with my S/O at the theater on Saturday with Nickel Boys and Flow. Both were very good in their own ways.
Lots of rewatches this week since I was just in mood to watch some of my goto comfort movies.
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Speed before but it’s been so long and my memory of it is so vague, I’m considering it basically a first time watch. Great action flick. Keanu is goofy and fun as usual and Sandra Bullock is very charming in her role.
Universal Soldier was very dumb and pretty much a ripoff of Terminator. Very fun action flick nonetheless. Would be a good one to watch and riff on with friends.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding was pretty good. It was interesting that it’s a romcom that avoids a lot of romcom tropes and had an unconventional protagonist for the genre, but still works perfectly fine as a romcom.

In the past week, I’ve watched:
Paddington in Peru (theater) Moonstruck The Gorge Spiderman: Across the Spiderverse Cape Fear The Monkey (theater)
I’d say both The Monkey and Paddington in Peru are among my favorite 2025 movies so far (though it’s early obv).
Moonstruck is always great, watched it with my fiancée for Valentines Day.
The Gorge was pretty mediocre with some interesting bits, but it just didn’t work for me overall.
Spiderman was great; idk why I hadn’t seen it yet but I love how the newer animated Spiderman movies experiment with different art styles.
Cape Fear was good. I loved how unhinged De Niro was in this.

- Comment on Backlash builds: why the architecture world hates The Brutalist 1 month ago:
Seems like a classic case of a film relating to a certain topic pissing off people who are really into that topic. The Brutalist with architecture, Black Swan with ballet, all kinds of fighting movies, etc. At the end of the day, the film isn’t a documentary and doesn’t need to portray things perfectly, they just need to portray them in a way that allows the story to be told well.

- Comment on Is there a better sequel than Terminator 2? 1 month ago:
I won’t go so far as to say this is better than Terminator 2, but Gremlins 2 is such a great sequel. Some people are turned off by the zaniness, but I love how it’s basically a parody of unnecessary sequels and that they just swung for the fences with it.
