I think you’re arguing for arguing’s sake. If you don’t see the point by now, then I am unable to make it more clear. I’m sorry.
- Comment on What IRC options are best recommended, and just work? I have seen a few people discuss lounge as an option, but wanted to see thoughts here too before I commit to setting something up for my family. 1 week ago:
Thelounge works easily. Are you sure that IRC is the right choice for a family though? Have you looked into Matrix?
- Comment on Someone created a public domain version of Netflix 1 week ago:
At that rate me walking to the store is stochastic because a grand piano could fall on my head. We have to draw the line at some logical point.
- Comment on Someone created a public domain version of Netflix 1 week ago:
No, they have a place where stochastic algorithms are necessary. For writing a hello world application, no stochastic algorithm is necessary. Comparing compilers with LLMs is comparing apples with oranges.
- Comment on Someone created a public domain version of Netflix 1 week ago:
A compiler is deterministic. LLMs are by definition nondeterministic.

Isn’t it obvious?
I heavily relied on agentic development (as an additional learning goal) using OpenCode (with Sonnet 4.5 and Gemini 3 Flash and the beads tracker).
I vibe coded once and after I saw the generated code, I will not let anything like that on my home network.

Cool idea but man I won’t be touching that with a ten foot pole.
- Comment on It seems that Valve is working on a "SteamGPT" feature that will apparently deal with Steam support issues and is somehow connected to Trust Score and CS2 anti-cheat 1 month ago:
Gamers™ are blinded. The general lemmy consensus is that corporations are bad, but somehow steam gets a pass because “games”.

Imagine thinking valve isn’t an absolute monopoly in PC video game industry

All this talk with valve being a “good” monopoly are such horse shit. Valve WILL enshittify, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, buts it’s coming and people are acting like it won’t happen.

Just fyi, jellyfin should not be accessible publicly. Even their documentation says that.
- Comment on Smart Homes Are Terrible 3 months ago:
Smart home shouldn’t be prebuilt. One has to build it themselves so it matches their use case. One should optimally also not need 10 apps to run a home. I do everything using Home Assistant App.
- Comment on Discord will restrict your account next month unless you scan ID or face 3 months ago:
It is no more clunky than discord was a couple years ago. Setting up a server is very clunky, but the average Joe doesn’t have to do it.
- Comment on Discord will restrict your account next month unless you scan ID or face 3 months ago:
It really is no different than discord. You create an account, download the client, log in and that’s that. You don’t have to self host it or use any instance that isn’t the main instance. Just go to matrix.org and sign up.
- Comment on Discord will restrict your account next month unless you scan ID or face 3 months ago:
In element there’s a button on top of the chat. I press that and it’s calling.
- Comment on Discord will restrict your account next month unless you scan ID or face 3 months ago:
It does it well, it’s just clunky. It works perfectly fine, and I recommend it over discord ang day of the week. Except Tuesdays. Tuesdays I recommend IRC.
- Comment on Discord will restrict your account next month unless you scan ID or face 3 months ago:
Matrix can literally do everything you just mentioned. It’s clunky, but it works.

In their defense, counter strike 1.5 and 1.6 existed. Condition zero as 1.7, source as 1.8, GO as 1.9 and now we are finally at two. 🤷♂️

What are you trying to prove? Did you read the article?
- Comment on Would I sound taller if I gave my height as 6'-4"? 7 months ago:
If we are going to assume that they also have a mic and everything they say will be played back from the speakers, then we need to factor in the fact that one can still hear them talk through their mouth, and that a foot of height will add about 3ms of delay.
