Perhaps others will. I’ve already chosen my path. We both work full time in well paying jobs and already own our overpriced house. The kids are well into their school years.

A great concept but unfortunately not a thing here. Things used to be very affordable. The last decade has been a painful one over here. It’s unfortunate.

Again, different places. Rentals are through the roof here, not a lot of savings to be had the prices went up along with the real estate. Plenty of rentals in cities, we’d have to relocate only to downsize then pay a comparable amount and be at the mercy of landlords. Owning houses, although expensive still makes sense here if you can do it. Living in a rental means you’ll never get out seeing as 2500+ monthly to live in a dump with rooms to accommodate children and much more to live in a larger city and/or nicer place. Rentals are a trap these days.

Unfortunately, in Canada, it’s not possible to live in a house with that type of work situation unless you’re of a much older generation and bought your house decades ago. When I was younger it was typical for the father to have the full-time job (blue collar) and his wife to have a part-time job for “fun money”. Those days are long gone. Any couple starting up are both going to need professional jobs and likely live with their parents for quite a few years if they want to crack the housing market only to live house-poor.
I’m a millennial, I caught the middle ground. Housing wasn’t as expensive (but far from cheap) but still required both my wife and I to have above average paying jobs and we didn’t start having kids until our mid-30s in order to get our finances in order

You’re not wrong except I’ve never been met with such a dream situation.

Anyone can be a parent. Being a good parent, however, takes sacrifice. There are only so many hours in the day. And sure, I could game once they’re asleep but that means the laundry, dishes, lunches, etc. can’t get done which is a direct impact on their lives and your own. Most young parents will have to deprioritize gaming for years to make everything work. Imo good parenting comes with selflessness. Once your kids are properly automated you can slowly regain leisure time.
