SubstituteTurkey@lemmy.ca 6 days agoAgain, different places. Rentals are through the roof here, not a lot of savings to be had the prices went up along with the real estate. Plenty of rentals in cities, we’d have to relocate only to downsize then pay a comparable amount and be at the mercy of landlords. Owning houses, although expensive still makes sense here if you can do it. Living in a rental means you’ll never get out seeing as 2500+ monthly to live in a dump with rooms to accommodate children and much more to live in a larger city and/or nicer place. Rentals are a trap these days.

That’s insane how expensive it is. What would it cost to buy a flat? Maybe build one with others, like build together? That exists here in Germany, it’s called Baugenossenschaft

A great concept but unfortunately not a thing here. Things used to be very affordable. The last decade has been a painful one over here. It’s unfortunate.

Find others with the same problem and be the first baugenossenschaft maybe? If you have a lot to gain, maybe it’s worth it. I believe that in every crisis, there is a chance as well if you’re willing and able to adapt. Not saying crises are good, lol

Perhaps others will. I’ve already chosen my path. We both work full time in well paying jobs and already own our overpriced house. The kids are well into their school years.
