If you average out the low precision, high accuracy shots you will get a single point as your result. If that point is not already in the dead centre, then increasing accuracy is simply a matter of shifting that point closer to it. You can do that without increasing precision by moving the entire shot spread in that direction.
I’ve found this analogy often confuses people because in the shooting world the terminology is a little different. There the high precision spread would be considered high accuracy, with it only being a matter of adjusting the sights to get it on centre. And nobody is winning a shooting competition by arguing that the average of their shot spread is in the centre.

I was watching live when Trump called in, and the astronauts were clearly trying to emphasize the benefits of diversity and co-operation, and I’m quite sure none of that sunk in. Trump was too busy mispronouncing names, not knowing the difference between the name of the mission and the name of the craft, big noting his own role in funding NASA (while his administration has been actively attacking NASA) and generally waffling on because he likes to listen to himself speak.
The next call after that also had the NASA director comment something like “I’m sure this call won’t be as special as that last one” whereupon commander Wiseman burst out laughing so I’m pretty confident those involved in the mission are not in Trump’s camp. Which is to be expected, because their jobs require them to be humans with functioning brains.

It’s curious seeing people equate warm lighting with old people and old homes. Maybe it’s just my region but everybody (especially boomers) switched to CFLs when those came out and then to the cheapest, nastiest cool LEDs with cornea-melting levels of blue light after that. Sometimes I feel like the only sane person when I’m walking around and seeing the insides of houses lit up the same color as you’d get from a $5 flashlight 15 years ago.
I have 4000k in the kitchen and bathroom and 2700K or 3000K everywhere else. After reading this thread I’m considering finding some high CRI adjustables because I also find the 4000k lights pretty harsh at night.

This sounds exactly like the lies anti-drug proponents tell to try scare people off drugs. Did you know there was a boy who died after injecting just one marijuana?

It might not be the 😵 kind of poison but it is absolutely the 🤮 kind of poison, even when decarbed. I’d describe it as 🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮😵💫🤮😵💫🤮😵💫🤮😵💫😴😴😴 and definitely not 🤤 at any point.

As someone who does hit the gym, in my experience the majority of people you’re impressing with your physique are men. Sure I’d say most women like it if you have it (assuming you aren’t too big), but generalising that it’s the main attraction would be a mistake.
- Comment on Pray for me lads, Imma about to rawdog this without back ups 1 year ago:
I’ve had two different arch based distros have issues when trying to update after long periods. I also had an Ubuntu server fail completely when doing a major version upgrade and had to restore it from backup. But then again I’ve also had no trouble updating an Ubuntu machine that was a couple years behind.
I’m on Fedora now for my desktop and it’s been great so far, but I also do updates at least weekly. My advice would be if you expect to go months between updates your best choice is probably Debian.

Fun fact about mushroom toxicity by contrast. Because the mushroom is only the reproductive organ of the organism, and you’re basically doing it a favour by picking it and spreading its spores everywhere, theres no evolutionary pressure for it to evolve toxicity to humans. So the compounds in mushrooms that are toxic to us likely exist for other purposes, and are only toxic to us by coincidence.
For this reason the proportion of species of mushrooms that are safe vs. the number that are toxic is greater than with plants. Because plants have had selective pressure to evolve poisons that discourage or prevent herbivory. So if you walk into an unfamiliar forest and pick one plant and one mushroom to eat at random, it’s more likely the plant is the bigger danger.
Of course I absolutely do not condone eating plants or fungi at random unless you intend to have a painful death.
- Comment on Are cars with AWD worth it compared to FWD. 1 year ago:
Not quite true on the second part. It’s primarily Jatco CVTs that are reliability nightmares, and are what is used by Nissan. Subaru make their own CVTs which are widely regarded to be much more reliable.
Pretty much the entire poor reputation of CVTs derives from those shitty Jatcos but the tech itself wasn’t the problem, it was the execution.

Last I checked hexbear had something like 70% more total comments than lemmy.world despite only having a tiny fraction of the users. Sounds like bots to me
