I’m not sure I’ll ever get over how arrogant and simple-minded Pascal’s Wager is. The whole premise is either Christianity or nothing; it doesn’t account for any other religion. I just find it hilarious.

I’d argue that, while there are many - odd - translations (new urban bible, new living translation, new American translation, among others), there are some very good recent academic translations which shouldn’t be included in that. NRSVue and NOAB come to mind as excellent academic translations accessible to the everyday person.
It’s just unfortunate that so many people got duped into this religion by books that were making excuses and purposely translating apologetically.
Christianity is untrue either way, but some recent translations make it far more apparent than others.

Why should they get their interpretation from an apologetic translation written in the 1600s? There are many better versions with more accurate translations and include so many things that have been found since then.
If the context in the KJV was wrong, why shouldn’t it be updated?

Chicago is such a self-important city for people with no sense of the world.

The same way prospect (futures) markets should be illegal, as well as options. The rich apparently couldn’t make enough with regular stocks so they had to build gambling into it, and then inside trade to make sure they won.
Burn it down.

Grew up working on a dairy farm, definitely drank raw milk and didn’t shit my guts out. It would if you drank, like, a LOT of it. But seriously you’d have to drink more than a cup or so.

I was going to say that I have an awesome book about this stuff, and then I saw the author of the post is the author of that book. The book is called “Your Inner Fish” and it is EXCELLENT.

Fuck dude, it’s all so goddamned depressing. The only sliver of hope I have is that I can pass my knowledge to my kids and teach them better much younger. Hopefully enough people do this sort of thing that we might finally pull ourselves out of our bullshit ignorance. I know it’s worth nothing, but I’m sorry all the same.

I think you’re correct. We were taught about manifest destiny but not the genocide of Native Americans, and that’s just one instance of the institutionalized racism we were taught was good. SO MANY PEOPLE never grew out of that or tried to be better.
