It does very, very slowly drain your health, but you would have to intentionally try to die from it. It’s kind of been an in-joke in MGS since the beginning, the cigarettes (cigar in 3) are occasionally actually useful items, such as using them in 1 to reveal laser tripwires if you missed the thermal goggles, but, well, tobacco is bad for you after all, so -1HP every ten seconds or so while it’s equipped.

The cave is supposed to be stupidly dark. There’s a few ways to mitigate it, like the torch, but even just waiting around for a few minutes will lighten it up as Snake’s eyes adjust to the darkness. You can also use the glowing mushrooms, I think, or the cigar to help a little in the meantime.

I was 100% certain that Sonys plan, and general silence around Bloodborne, was to have bluepoint due a remake as an eventual PS6 exclusive to drive some sales when that comes out. Guess I was wrong.

The runback wasn’t difficult at all but it was very annoying. You can avoid all enemies on the route except for a single drill fly, but it takes a whole 30 seconds or more to make the run back to the boss fight.
Actually, you can avoid all the enemies. The basic gist is just to keep running. If you run and jump from the start of the room, you’ll land and go under the drill fly when he spawns. Run-jump to the next platform and go up, and he’ll be stuck under the platform. Then you just jump up the little shortcut gap, pogo to the next ledge, and do another running jump to the second pogo to clear that drill fly before he can get you. If you run it and don’t mess up a pogo, it takes about 20 seconds.
I went from frustrated with the run back my first two or three attempts on Last Judge until I got the run back down and then it was kinda fun. I’d still rather not have run backs tbf but that one’s not quite as bad as I’ve seen some people make it out to be.

While it’s (probably) not the case for Valve, I think it’s pretty clear that Microsoft’s end goal is endless subscription fees and you owning nothing. And there’s a good chance of them succeeding at that as long as the primary OS for PC gaming is Windows.
