It is. And it’s wrong. But part of how we got here is it was sold as not being a tax, even though it absolutely is.
The claim was it was a mandatory retirement investment program. Because the wealthy have their own retirements figured out they don’t need their payouts to continue to scale with their income, so their payments in shouldn’t scale proportionally either, since it is “not a tax.”
But why it is a tax is, one, most of us will never see a payout because the program is going to collapse before most of us retire, and therefore it is NOT a mandatory retirement program. And second, all payments in and out of government are fungible, so it really is a tax and a separate retirement supplemental program, where we use language around them to pretend they are one program.
Ironically, if we took all the money that was paid into Social Security and invested it in a real portfolio (actual investment), our generation would actually get something, and current generations would be getting significantly more. The issue is that because whether you like government or not, it is a money loser. It’s basically designed to be one. But that means using the government as an investment vehicle is in pure investment terms really really bad. Plus it also sets up a regressive tax as you pointed out.

That is your speculation. But he has to do worse than your speculation, isn’t there a kind of infinite recursion there?

Almost all politicians are. And Epstein wasn’t the only operator. Today’s politicians act like they are, and Epstine’s operation was too far in the past for most of them.
Blackmail mills blackmail a lot people. If you had political finance money, would you finance the campaign of someone who says they are aligned with you, or someone you know will stay aligned with you? Power isn’t given to un-blackmailed people. And people who want power know this. So there is a long list of people willing to get blackmailed to get into power. They may even enjoy the part that gets them blackmailed.

FYI, Goku is a chinaman in some sense. In that the original manga is based on “Journey to the West,” which is a Chinese story.

Almost everything is a worm. Not just in heredity, but also in form. You are a worm that uses long mineral deposits and muscles to stand erect and move around in an erect position for some reason. Weirdest worm.

We could always make it so corporations have a hiring limit of 5,000 employees to make sure no one corporation is ever large. Doing that now would lead to mass firings. But if we had done it all along, we’d have a more competitive market.
- Comment on The bosses are never going to just hand workers a 32 hour workweek. 2 months ago:
You are an adult. You negotiate your arrangements. If you want a 32 hour work week it is yours. Just make yourself available 32 hours a week, and then find a job that is compatible with your availability.

Israel. And they don’t want the war to stop. So the second there is peace they will tear it up. If the US wants peace, and we should, we need to decouple our negotiation from Israel. But we can’t do that while we fund their military because Iran would be reasonable to think that if we stop fighting per our deals that we are then using Israel as a proxy to get around the deal.
It is a very dangerous thing that we’ve given these people money. Now we can’t negotiate deals with anyone while they actively try to ruin them, and we can’t be decoupled from their actions since we’ve funded those actions. We can’t cancel funding to Israel fast enough.

All presidents are evil. Bill Clinton embargoed Iraq to shift the news cycle off of his blowjob, and it killed a million children who had dependence on imported medical supplies.
Trump isn’t special.

Brave search does also have AI, but it doesn’t seem annoying, and you have to expand it yourself to see it. It isn’t shoved down your throat.
Having an AI overview is handy to have around when you actually want it. On Brave it’s just available.

We’d all already be using bitcoin if it wasn’t volatile. There is no reason why Fiat can’t be done in a secure way and with low fees. But somehow half the options can be insecure and remain competitive. Standards, group momentum, and network demand can be kind of a bitch to improving the world.

Exactly. Instead of complaining people can just grow them themselves. It’s not like commercial growers have a monopoly on growing food.
