- Comment on Over 20M 'people' listed as 100+ years old in the SS database? 4 days ago:
If you truly think they have our best interest at heart, you’re either willfully ignorant or you got swindled.
There’s no receipts, it’s the equivalent of yanking out server cables before understanding what they were there for. The same thing happened to Twitter.

Who gives a shit about the “smell test”? You are just talking out of your ass, that’s the smell.
LMAO I’m stealing this. And yeah, redut isn’t even from the US (admitted themselves), they are just a populist fanboy.
- Comment on Elden Ring Nightreign releases May 30th 1 week ago:
Try opening the article!
The FromSoftware spin-off to its incredibly successful epic will be out on 30th May 2025 across PS4, PS5, Xbox consoles, and PC (Steam).
First revealed at last year’s The Game Awards, Nightreign is a standalone online co-op game for three players, but with hints of Fortnite.
- Comment on Games that won't launch and won't give you any errormessage 1 week ago:
I ain’t here to defend shitty game dev practices, but maybe there’s no error message because the game can’t launch at all? Like, there’s nothing to report about because the game never got a chance to load properly.
Have you checked the event log? Maybe that will give you a clue.
- Comment on Valve ban advertising-based business models on Steam, no forced adverts like in mobile games 1 week ago:
Haven’t seen a game that uses ads like this, but very good that it’s strictly prohibited now. That shit should never have taken off on mobile, but alas. At least we can prevent it on PC.

Reddit deletes all my accounts for some reason eventually.
Are you going to tell us the reason?
Usually, the type of people on reddit is someone who is incapable of critical thinking and independent thought.
Welcome to the internet. It’s not exclusive to Reddit. Although I’m sure a lot of judgment on people’s critical thinking skills and ability to think freely stems from misunderstanding and not being able to convey enough information about who someone is from a single comment.
- Comment on Babyllionaire Musk got r/whitepoepletwitter banned 2 weeks ago:
I’m sorry but inciting violence gets any instance nuked, broligarch or federated.
Just read this:
Some of the screenshots say: “Muskrat’s DOGE Henchmen have been identified,” “It’s time to do more than dragging names, let’s drag their necks up by a large coil of rope,” “Time to hunt,” “I’ll say it. This nazi stooge needs to be shot,” and other comments sharing a similar sentiment.
Now of course we can gloat that R*ddit is bending the knee, but if a Lemmy instance was big enough to attract the same attention, exactly the same thing would have happened. No instance owner wants their whole instance get nuked by feds because the users of the instance are inciting violence.
- Comment on How can you explain a smell you've never smelled before? 2 weeks ago:
Does the smell change with temperature or airflow? That might give clues as to whether it’s embedded in materials or something in the air itself.

- Comment on Select a tip 2 weeks ago:
I reverse image searched on mobile to try find the origin / source of this specific image to see if it was legit.
I wasn’t excluding the possibility of some company in the world prompting for a 100% tip, hence why I didn’t spend 10 seconds googling for it.
- Comment on Select a tip 3 weeks ago:
I can’t find the original image, it’s just been reshared dozens of times on Xitter, Threads, Facebook and Reddit, but nobody is adding context or naming and shaming.
So yeah, probably just ragebait.
- Comment on Day 198 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots 3 weeks ago:
A trip down memory lane! Forklift battles are fun :D
I was going to push for 120 but for some reason i guess my monitor can’t do that despite me being 100% sure it could. I even had it hooked up via DP.
DP 1.2, perhaps? Either on your GPU or your monitor. 1.2 only goes up to 75hz at 4k, while 1.4 can do 120hz.

It’s only about live chat. You can still send in the form, call them, or visit a local office.

That’s so cool! On Firefox mobile I recommend putting it into desktop mode, but you’re right, it’s a bit broken on Firefox.

- Comment on Hogwarts Legacy - a weird (90 hour) review *no spoilers 3 weeks ago:
I think it’s a bit unfair to base it off the Switch version. Even though the developers really tried (walling off vistas for better framerate, reducing the amount of objects in rooms, etc) the loading times are virtually nonexistent on PS5 and obviously it looks and plays a lot better.
Doesn’t apply to the puzzles and possibly the controls though, although Switch is missing an analog trigger so that might be another reason it’s being obtuse.
All in all, when I saw the comparison video and how long loading times were even when going in and out a single building, I knew that it was gonna be a rough time. Playable, sure, but the best experience is on PC/PS5
- Comment on Amazon Artificially Discounting Items $0.01 Below the Free Shipping Limit 3 weeks ago:
It’s $5 more expensive, and then shipping.
But the real price of the amazon one is either 34.99 plus shipping or 38.37 without shipping
- Comment on Why do so many UK electrical sockets have an on/off switch next to them? 3 weeks ago:
Yup, they are the standard.
Would be fun to see some stories about you discovering things in the UK and how they are so different than in the US!
- Comment on Why do so many UK electrical sockets have an on/off switch next to them? 3 weeks ago:
This is the answer. When all sockets are connected to one big loop, there’s fuses in each socket to prevent a device from screwing with the whole system.
- Comment on Why can ballpoint pens fail permanently when they still have so much ink left? 4 weeks ago:
Usually this means the ball part is stuck and/or the ink surrounding it has dried out.
Here’s a close up of how they work: youtube.com/shorts/7KGqGAlxwJs
If no ink gets transfered unto the ball, it’s not able to write anything.

Unironically, I dislike the 196 stuff. It’s kinda like shitposting, but at least with shitposting you have standards. Just posting anything for the sake of posting something makes me tune out such communities due to the noise.
Considering there’s at least 4 different 196 communities, I understand I am very much in the minority and this is an unpopular opinion.
- Comment on Do sunrise and sunset objectively look different or do they just feel different? 4 weeks ago:
It’s true that it’s mirrored, but the difference is that Golden Hour is after the sun has risen, and before the sun has set. Before sunrise it’s Blue, and after sunset it’s also Blue. Here’s a visualisation:
I figured OP just mentally attributed it to a difference between sunrise and sunset based on their experience so far, so I didn’t mention it initially.
- Comment on Do sunrise and sunset objectively look different or do they just feel different? 4 weeks ago:
Nope, you’re absolutely right. These time windows are called “Golden Hour” and “Blue Hour” and are one of the basic principles to keep in mind and use in photography.
Here’s a page explaining things a bit more: www.meredithfontana.com/post/what-is-golden-hour
- Comment on CIA propaganda down the drain 5 weeks ago:
Exactly, but if you read the Chinese version. (google translated link) then the content is very different.
This not only answers my original question, but also highlights the irony that we trust English Wikipedia pages over social media comments, but not Chinese Wikipedia pages over social media comments.
I was hoping someone with more knowledge about Wikipedia and how language-specific pages are vetted can help figure this one out.
- Comment on CIA propaganda down the drain 5 weeks ago:
Doesn’t the wiki say the same thing, that it’s considered a myth? English page instead of chinese: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Credit_System
- Comment on Nintendo Switch 2 finally officially revealed 5 weeks ago:
I thought the same, but the way the shot was framed made the Joy Cons look more like cars racing around. I wonder how that would work, actually.
